Ok I've avoided putting ANY kind of crap in my hair at all (other than simple, basic shampoo w/o any kind of additional crap in it) for pretty much the whole time I've been growing.
But I always am one for trying new things, so I was thinking that maybe a good spray or gel could make my hair look better but I am apprehensive because in the past when I had short hair I used sprays that made my hair very sticky and it was awful, I don't ever want to do that again. (btw my hair is pretty straight but not entirely)
So the criteria, starting with most important that I am looking for:
- MUST NOT BE AT ALL STICKY. Simple, has to leave my hair soft.
- Trying to reduce frizziness; this is actually the main reason I was thinking about trying a spray/gel since even though my hair is straight it can get pretty frizzy at times w/ lots of loose hairs. I'd like to tame them.
- Has some holding power so I don't have to do as many "hair checks" from time to time throughout the day but not so much that my hair is permanently frozen stiff like some of the terrible sticky sprays described above used to.
Please help!
for spray gel I use l'Oreal Liquid (styling spray gel) Gel...
I also use B-INTENSE "Softwear" gel...added into damp hair before styling.
i think a "good spray/gel" is an oxymoron. Me and my sis have tried different ones with little satisfaction. Spray/gel, the worst of both worlds.
You can see then why I have been afraid of using them... well what do you suggest then?
well, for me, i use moose and its studly. I used to rue the day moose was ever created, now its my friend. Perhaps instead of SPRAY/GEL use hairsprat AND GEL, using them both in small amounts until you have the perfect look. Get me?? Nothing beats gel to tame hair in my opinion, and sprays are great for a stylish hold. Im kind of an anti spray/gel terrorist, i prefer them just on their own, not cleverly marketed as a "2 in 1". Anyway, now the hard part of finding the perfect combo of hairsprays and gels. Remember, more expensive doesn't mean better. I use Finesse moose, its cheap and it works so well it makes me teary eyed.
I use Aussie shampoo usually, and once at the store they had a special where if you buy shampoo, you get a free container of their hairspray. So I figured I'd give it a try... and it hasn't been too bad at all. I think it's the medium hold one. Anyway, it turns out it has a pretty fruity (not bad) smell, which came as a shock spraying it on the first time as I was heading off to school. I thought, "oh crap, I'm gonna smell like a girl all day!", but the smell went away in a minute or so (or I got used to it?), so it worked out either way... and it's cheap, so give it a try.
