Hi, me again,
Well, the lukewarm water deal is great, but alas, all of us have to wash our hair with shampoo now and again. When I do, since I am still in that awkward phase, I get the loopy curlies. The ends of my hair are wild without the blow-dryer, you have all convinced me to get rid of that. Since I do not have this problem on the days when I use only lukewarm water to wash, I have to suspect that the hair is curling because it is drier than before. Right or wrong??
I am trying to select my "product" - a healthy product that will help me through this and not defeat the purpose. Dawn recommended a few, including Citre Shine. Citre Shine was the only one that I could find available. I have used Citre Shine, but am reluctant to use the Citre Shine "laminator" because when I did before, I seem to remember it feeling like a slicone based product. The laminator did, as I remember control the curlies. Ok, Dawn, I read the Thermasilk label - really, it didn't feel like THAT (silicone) going on... (THANKS!! - threw that away.).
I also read the Citre Shine Laminator label, no ingredients listed. What's up with that? 'cone or not?
I seem to remember that Victor recommended Citre Shine Laminator a while back. What's the deal with this Citre Shine Laminator? Is is safe to use in my hair??.
Ahhh, I don't know what to use.
If you have forgotten, I have VERY FINE hair, not thin, just FINE, VERY FINE. It seems to break easy, but then again, from this board, I have learned not to break it so much. I just want the best, bulkiest, "heathiest" hair that I can have - can we have a board vote?
Your decision... If you are willing to provide hair care feedback for me, you may either post to this message, or send an e-mail to dondle320@aol.com I promise to post the result of all submissions on this board.
I will close the voting on 8th of September. Until then, it is Citre Shine, minus the laminator.
Please help, I have to get through this awkward stage. EVERYONE comments on the loopy curlies - I CANNOT submit to peer pressure here (everyone wants me to CUT)!!
Thanks,
DB
Hey man i know how you feel. i read in a magazine that the causes of those loops and flyaways are dryness and static. sometimes conditioners rinse away so fast they almost do not moisturize the hair at all. i get this problem sometimes since i've stopped trimming my hair and going for waist length. i use a product called LO CEAN. im not sure if they have that product there, but it's like a hair coating essence; it almost has a light oily feel to it and it's super concentrated so a half a drop is probably enough for medium length hair. i usually apply this product after my hair dries since i don't like brushing it when it's wet. it also eases in detangling. i also tried rubbing BOUNCE on the ends of my hair. it usually prevents this since static is a culprit also. about the shampoo products, i just buy whatever but i make sure i use a conditioner that really coats my hair. i hope i was able to help.
It's been a very long time since I've had fine hair, and I wasn't the one with control over it at the time ('twas my parents), so I really don't have much to say about what to recommend for it. I suspect what you really need is a moisturizing conditioner.
As for the ingredients, I think that depends upon the size of the container. I have two containers, one with, and the other without ingredients. One says hair "laminator", the other one hair "polisher", but they're essentially the same. The hair polisher has the following listed ingredients:
Cyclomethicone
Dimethicone
2 Ethylhexyl-P-Methoxycinnimate (sun filter)
Citrus essences of white grapefruit, melogold, pumelo, and Tahiti lime, and fragrance
As far as I'm concerned the essences are basically water and/or trace oils. The sun filter is probably also a trace, leaving the balance basically silicone, which is no doubt why it felt like a silicone to you.
Hey DB,
Ok,you asked for it, let me get specific then. I don't know what others use but I'll tell you what works around here. The whole family uses the line of Nature's Gate products. Look at your local health food store, I get mine right in the health section of the grocery store. The kids use the rainwater, or aloe, or keratin, the husband likes the biotin and aloe and jojoba and I use the original herbal, keratin, and especially the jojoba. Are you using conditioner? You should. That should help your dry ends. When the husbands mop gets whacked out, too much sun or swimming or general abuse and after a shower the dry hair looks like some wild bush sticking out on all sides, I brush it for him while spritzing on some St. Ives leave in conditioner, the split end mender stuff and in an instant the super soft ringlet curls are back into fine shape. The same stuff is great for taming a kids wild tangles too. I don't use it much but my hair is straight as a pin. Try some deep conditioners every once in a while, some jojoba and almond oil or straight jojoba, or just leave some conditioner on your hair for a really long time and then go rinse it out a few hours later, or the next morning. If your hair seems really fragile, maybe you need some internal help. Are you getting enough B complex? C? A? Kelp? Multi minerals? Protein? And make sure you condition after shampooing, always. We always put the shampoo on top only, not the ends, let it run down to there, then just condition the ends.
Good luck! Keep us posted on your progress! Don't be talked into a cut you don't want!
Best wishes to all!
Dawn
Hey Dawn,
Thanks!! You're gonna be proud :)
I ran out of the Thermasilk Conditioner (uggh) a few days ago. I couldn't wait to collect everyone's advice, so I visited my local heath food store. (deja vu?) I read about 20 or so different products and ultimately liked what I read on Nature's Gate Rainwater Rosemary, shampoo and conditioner!! The store didn't carry any leave ins, so I have skipped a day or two, but I will take a look around for the St. Ives today. I have been on hyper vitamin therapy for a while now in preparation for my back surgery, I'll check out the B concentrations and make sure that they're maintained. I'm sure that I will have a bit less trouble with breakage when this back thing is over, the back of my hair is taking a beating with all this time in bed. :( Thanks for the support, advice and encoureagement!!
DB
Very cool DB! You see, I wouldn't steer you wrong! You'll be quite happy with the NG. With your type of hair you should really try the jojoba too, I think you'll like it. That St. Ives is usually widely available, K-mart, Wal-Mart, those kinds of places and grocery stores too. I like the NG because its got all natural herbal ingredients, not just water as the first ingredient but herbal extracts, no dyes or extra additives like silicone and its really very inexpensive. It won't let you down.
Best of luck with that hair and your back! Are you taking super dosages of vitamin C? They say there is a progressively higher concentration of C in the spinal column fluids, around the cord and very high concentrations in the disks. It might help with the healing process and can't hurt. Back pain sucks, I hope you get well soon!
Take care!
Very best wishes to all!
Dawn
Hi Dawn,
I'll check out the jojoba too!! I can't believe that I am Soooo into this.. :) Well, layed up like I am, ANY hobby (did I just call my hair a hobby?) can't hurt!!
Yep, the vitamin C is flowing out of me - literally :)
I am also on H2O2 therapy - recommended by a friend. Food grade (33%) of course. And... a combination of chammomile and yarrow tea.
Eeee gads, I hope that the chammomile doesn't start highlighting my hair :) (applied topically to auburn hair, it does).
Thank you, Dawn, very sincerely for the support. These days I have little entertainment but that from my cyber-friends. Call me weird, but I switched to silk pillow cases today - to save the back of my hair due to the fact that I am in bed a lot. Just another tip from a cyber-friend. Jees.. silk, hair, in bed a lot - you'd think I would have a better life than this :) :) :) (not a come-on, just humor).
Thank you, sincerely....
DB
How do I find Citre Shine, I can not find it.
