Hi guys,
I was just curious what you all have found to work best for you in avoiding split ends (type of conditioner, amount of times you condition, not using certain products, etc).
Also, I'm on about my eigth month of growh and it's hard to tell if I have any split ends. To err on the safe side, would you recommend that I get a "touch up" to cut off any split ends I might have?
Thanks!
Different things work for different people.
I'd suggest conditioning after each shampoo. When combing/ brushing, start at the botom and work your way up until all tangles are gone. Starting at the bottom really helps.
I'd suggest deep conditioning once a week with a good conditioner. Once every month or so do a really good deep conditioning with an oil treatment or even...I know it sounds crazy...mayonnaise.
A slight trim (1/8" to no more than 1/4") every three months should suffice if you see a lot of split ends. If you only have a few, I suggest trimming them yourself...one by one. A split end is very easy to spot.
Thanks for the info, Rokker. I've seen the term "deep conditioning" in the past but never bothered to ask, so I guess now is the time: What exactly is "deep conditioning"? When I take my shower, I usually leave the conditioner in my hair the entire time I'm washing with soap, and then I rinse the conditioner out. Don't know if that is "deep conditioning", or if that is even good to do...
As far as the split ends, I'll look tonight to see if I spot any.
With the good care, handlinf and products you have been using
for the past several months, I doubt very much if you have split ends.
That's just my opinion but maybe I'm correct.
Deep conditioning is putting in something like Aussie 3 Minute Miracle, a hot oil treatment, etc. Then leave it on for 30 minutes or an hour. Then go back and rinse. Bonus points if you wear a shower cap while out of the shower. It holds the moisture in.
I personally like BreakThru. You can find it at Wal Mart or any other major store. I use the regular conditioner to deep condition once a week, and the leave-in after I towel dry. Note: Do not use much of the leave in. One squirt of the pump is enough...for me anyway.
Trust me on the mayo. Do that monthly and your hair will look very nice.
...for the responses, guys. I looked at my hair tonight and I think it looks ok. Rokker, I'll keep the mayo thing in mind...although my wife will think I've flipped! Haha! Talk to ya soon...
How long do you keep the mayo on your hair?
Do you wet your hair first? etc.
I apply to damp (but not wet) hair and leave it in for 1-2 hours. Then I rinse out, wash, condition, and do my normal routine from there.
Note: Use regular mayo. The fat free or reduced fat stuff doesn't cut it.
