Nuff said.
yes...see a doctor. Maybe you are lacking something in your diet or
maybe you need some chemicals
like everyone else said, go to a doctor ASAP. this could be a sign that you're having problems after the operation. remember, your body is all one piece, if one part of you (your hair in this case) is ailing it's a sign theirs a problem with the whole.
Hi Erik,
I reckon it to be a post-op trauma. You see... your body is severely weakened by the op due to the excessive loss of blood and the consumption of anti-biotics. As such, vital nutrients could not be reached efficiently to every part of your body. This means that your body will "prioritize" by giving the remnant nutrients to your vital organs first and, due to this shortage of nutrients, your hair reacts by losing it. So do your nails and probably, your skin.
But fret not, 'cause you'll most probably recover from this (you're ONLY 16!). I've been through this terrible phase some 3 months ago when I had an op for an obstructed intestine (yes, the one the Bee Gee had but apparently, less severe). My hair roots were so weak during that period that it looks as if my hair was just "pasted" on. A slight tug causes at least 5-6 strands to fall out. This went on for about 2 months before it slowly recovered. Yes, I could feel my thick hair thinning significantly and it really traumatized me :(
Now, it's slowly recovering back to it's past luxury and I was really glad that I hung it out. The thing you should do now is to worry less and "absorb" more (nutrients, that is). Try and take in more protein-loaded foods, balanced with fiber-rich veges and fruits. If necessary, help yourself with some supplements in the form of B, B-complex and C. Iron and zinc minerals do help a great deal, too.
Most importantly, learn how to relax. That is because, the more your feel stressed, the more hair you'll loose and the more hair you loose, the more stressed up you'll feel. You wouldn't want this vicious cycle to set in and take its further toll on your already weakened body, right?
Try and be happy and if all else fails, approach your doctor. He/she WILL definitely have a solution for you.
Good luck and cheers,
Jin
First off, make sure you are not getting needlessly alarmed. The average person loses about 100 hairs a day. If you have fine hair, you may lose more. If you have coarse hair, you may lose less. This is just an average.
Also, on average, a scalp hair grows for about 5 years. After 5 years it goes into a dormant state. It remains in place until it starts growing again. That is when it falls out.
After reading this, if you feel your hair loss is still excessive, it may be time to see a doctor. If it is just stress related, take steps to relieve the source of the stress. Stress certainly is one of the things that has been shown to contribute to hair loss (and malaise in general).
I doubt very much that you would have male pattern baldness at 16. I agree with the others that stress is the most obvious factor here. Learning to relax is very important. And I know its easier said than done. I should know, Im an accountant. Over the years, Ive trained myself to do very deep relaxation exercises. It didnt come in one day, but once youve got the hang of it you can give yourself deep rest & deep sleep. Hang in there!
