making the decision to grow my hair out again is only 1/2 the battle... Now I'm gonna need some positive reinforcement when I start documenting progress and dealing with the inevitable " f*&^ing hippy" comment that is gonna come from my co workers when I only have an inch of hair on my head. My comment back can be "f$%&ing Jarhead" ! HA! I figure I'm gonna see how long I can get away with only getting the sides and back cut and ending up with that skater look that was popular a few years ago. That should conform to my what job mandates and should look close to what it looked like before... Thanks for this site... It will keep the motivation up
Hey, why not look way down the column to "RETORTS FOR THE NIT-PICKERS" for some possible ideas as to how to deal with these people and NOT be using four letter words...........for this is what they want when they pick on you. Good luck dealing with them with these kinds of comments.
If you really make up your mind to grow then you won't need encouragement to keep doing it.
I never had anyone encourage me to grow it long and didn't really know anyone with hair that could be considered long.
Your hair grows by itself, just don't take action by cuting it and it will get longer. Hopefully you aren't the kind of overly sensitive person who lets a quick passing comment completely ruin their whole day, that's no way to live a life.
I'm sure that if your co-workers wanted you to wear argyle socks and cartigans (spelling?) you wouldn't feel the need to do it. Keep that in mind and even suggest it to to overbearing people if the need arises.
Is this the look that you want ? - or the look that your employers and/or co-workers want ?
If it's the first, then good luck with the growing !
If it's the second, then you may wind up resentful, angry and unhappy. If long hair is important to you then you may need to challenge your employer's dress/hair code on the grounds of gender equality (assuming you're not in the military). I've seen some great posts on this board dealing with this issue. The views of co-workers are of no importance whatsoever - you will find ways of ignoring their views appropriate to your personality and the circumstances. Maybe you could ask for further advice on the board, if and when this happens.
Whatever you choose to do - good luck !
