Hi guys,
Here's the question: When wearing a pony tail, does it look more professional to have the neck hair trimmed off, or can it be left on?
I'd like to not worry about shaving my neck hair off, but I need to think about the future. I'll need to wear a pony tail while working since that will look the most professional in my field. I have not touched my neck hair since last July. Can I get away with leaving the neck hair alone if I must wear a pony tail?
Thanks...
Neck hair tends to look pretty yucky. You won't be sorry you trim it but it will take upkeep every once in a while to stay looking clean. I guess you can say it's kind of like a beard.
Look at some women who have their hair tied back and you notice that they would look neater themselves if they got rid of that short, scraggly looking neck scruff.
Thanks for the input. I'll have to keep on eye out for some women wearing a pony tail. I think you're right, though. I'm sure it will seem "cleaner" without those hairs there...
yah, shave your neck hair. Looks cleaner, especially with a collared shirt. Good luck, you'll look sharp.
Good question, something I've been wondering myself, but w/ a slight variation.
Will neck hairs ever grow long enough to be put into a ponytail w/ the rest of the hair, or do they just have a really short terminal length?
Yeah, they'll grow long also so you can put them in the tail too. :)
I would advise against it. You can get a good looking pony-tail without cutting that hair off. You might need to use a little gel and just comb all your hair back so it looks neat, then collect it into a pony-tail. What you're thinking is basically an undercut, the negative aspects of which have been covered many times before...
I beg to differ. I hate undercuts too but I don't think that shaving off those 'scruffy' lower neck hairs qualifies as an undercut. I think the question related to the downy 1" long bits BELOW the hairline. My wife shaves them off the same time she shaves my shoulders !! (it must be true love).
Maybe if you just let the shoulder hairs grow you could put them in the same ponytail as the neck hairs?
PS That was my first post. Growing since 2 May 2002.
Ya, definately not an undercut. We're talking about the scruffy hairs that never get more than a few to several inches and just tangle up some of the longer hairs while looking while looking like they don't blend with the rest of your hair. They are almost like sideburns.
hmmm seems I mistook his intentions. guess we're talking more along the lines of back hair/shoulder hair/hair at the base of your neck. ya I'd agree that has to go :)
Yeah, Hair Religion's speaking of what I'm talking about. Not interested in an undercut! :)
Ok so I finally convinced someone trim the inch-long hairs on my neck up to my "natural" hairline. In looking at the result it in the mirror my hairline is actually shaped in an inverted "U" with two "arms" extending down and tappering off. This hair is clearly not neck hair but it doesn't look like it will ever be long enough to go into a tail. What do you gentlemen do about these hairs? Shave them back until the hairline is straight? Trim them and let them alone. Let them grow?
The other day in a store I saw a guy with a tail jutting out the back of his head. As I got close I noticed he had about a 1" fringe of short hair below the base of the tail. Like a mullet that wrapped around below the long hair. My point is I don't want to look like that.
Hi Fitmus
I don't tend to worry about them too much unless they stick out too much and are visible from the front, and then I simply damp them down with a little water and re-tie a new tail. It seems to do the job and it's easy to do.
Good luck!
