I desperately need help with my hair, it's a total mess! I decided to start growing my hair about a year ago, and my last hair cut was a little over a year ago. I used to get a pretty much regular cut, but with my bangs a few inches long. Well anyway now my hair comes down a little past my face, but like I said it's a mess. I lose hair easily, all the time, and lots of it. My hair never shines at all. Looks dull. I've got billions of tangles and stuff in the back. I shampoo/condition my hair twice a week, but it does no good. Someone please help me I want nice long hair!!!
May I suggest washing it more often?
Or with something milder, perhaps? There's lots of stuff out there for hair because there's lots of different types of hair.
Do you live or work where it's dusty? If so you'll have to wash more often than if not. I sometimes go several days without washing when I'm inside all the time, but get me out on a dusty hiking trail and that'll call for daily washing for sure.
And maybe your hair is naturally dry and you need to wash less often! Shampooing does strip oils out of your hair so you don't want to overdo it for your hair, either.
I know it looks like we're telling you to go two opposite directions at the same time, but you have to do your best to figure out why your hair is tangly before you decide what to do about it. I mean, if it's dirty, you need to wash. If it's dry (are you in the wind a lot?) you need to condition. It can also be tangly because you're washing too often or with stuff too harsh.
One last question: Why are you allowing it to get so tangly? Long hair does take work to keep it detangled, and if you aren't going to spend the time to do that, you might as well go get it sheared. Depending on how much you're in the wind and how curly your hair is, you may need to detangle to some degree several times a day. It's a lot easier to do it a few times before it gets bad, than it is to wait until it's a matted mess and attempt it all in one big effort.
