The debate is - are Pantene products a good thing or a bad thing ? I've heard mixed opinions on this one and would like the views of the 'experts'.
If they're not so good is it because of a specific ingredient and should I be on the look-out for that particular ingredient in other products ?
Also, I've heard 'Aussie Moist' products mentioned a lot on this board. Are they any good ? Has anyone seen them in the UK (do you have to buy them in a salon or has anyone seen them in a supermarket) ?
Your views would be welcomed. Thanks !
In Boots. Only place I've seen them in the UK.
I use Aussie Moist and get the results I want.
They sell Aussie products at my local Sainsbury's (East Dulwich, London).
If you've seen it mentioned a lot then there is a reason for it.
It's not a speciality product so it's available in drugstores and stores that carry a lot of other shampoo and such products.
You can order it from Aussie's website too.
I have read some reviews of Pantene and seems like all of the begative reviews have to do with the ingredient silicone (dimethicone). The complaint is that while it smoothes hair and protects against damage, it eventually builds up and leaves the hair heavy, with "symptoms of hair breakage and / or static hair" (http://www.hair-news.com/perm-003.html) The other complaint is that due to the buildup, hair will not take very well to perms or colour.
The thing about these complaints is that they all seem to come from the same source, hair-news.com. Other web sites are posting articles from this site. Secondly, there seems to be some kind of grudge against Pantene since it is always mentioned. For example, L'Oreal Vive contains the same ingredients but is not mentioned.
I contacted Pantene a while ago about it and they basically said that silicon was good for the hair, it protects from the various forms of damage. It was emphasized that the four causes of damage are: chemical treatments, mechanical (eg. how you brush, brushing wet hair, how you shampoo), heat, and environmental (wind, sun, etc).
Gaurding against these four causes, it makes little difference what shampoo is used. It's just marketing and personal preference.

I use Panteen products and love the results I get. I also change products every 4 to 5 months. Most beauticians will tellyou that is a good idea so your hair does not get buildup. No matter what you use a good practice is "Rince" and Rince again. to remove allthe products from your hair.
You shouldn't have to change products every so often if you are using good hair products. I've been using Aussie for years now and never change.
I've known about the changing product advice for years but thats what you get with low quality stuff.
