It would be interesting to hear what kind of REACTIONS
longhairs get in different parts of this world.
I hear stories about guys in the UK encountering difficulties
from the 'shorthairs' but people in the US can have a difficlt time as well.
So far, nobody has said anything to me...but I do get those *looks*
though they do seem to be more of 'admiration' or surprise than
anything negative.
I live in Harrogate, North Yorkshire (England). There seems to be a larger than average number of men with long hair here compared to Leeds (the nearest big city).
I've not experienced anything negative of any significance.
hmmmmm...well maybe we must go City by City?
I suppose being a Longhair in places were they are relatively rare...
might be a bit more difficult?
Then again, it might depend on the mindset of the people living there.
It doesn't seem to be too much of a problem in Birmingham in the UK either, but then, some have said that they notice people giving them looks. I guess I get away with that because 1, If I am in the street I never really pay much attention to what people are doing, and 2, I spend most of my time in places where there are few or no people (i.e., the countryside). Anyone who has commented has always made a compliment.
My high school also allowed long hair - one of my friends grew his hair into a bob type style which was just above his shoulders and he had no problem with it.
I think it harder to have long hair in the USA. All the damn job dress codes.more guys.... Must cut hair to keep a job to pay the bills
Beeing longhaired should not be a problem in Austria (where I grew up), nor in Germany (where I live now). It depends on the people you keep company with, though. I guess you won't see a construnction worker with long hair. (Wait. Actually I've seen one on my last vacation in Austria :) )
I attended some sort of "higher technical engineering school" in Austria, and long haired men were really no problem. (My maths teacher actually had near-shoulder lenght hair). Some students had long hair too.
im living in east london and its extremely hard to be accepted as a long hair especially if your a young guy. unless your hair is 1 around the back and sides with abit more ontop enuff to brush upwards then your generally not accepted in my experience..
I think they want CONFORMITY.
AND YET ...people wear tattoos, PIERCINGS, and red & purple hair.
Explain that one to me!
In the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire area in England alot of the schools seem to outlaw long hair on boys. That said, there are quite a few long haired men you see around the towns. There's the obvious comments as well.

Every school I've ever heard of in the South East London area disallows hair below the collar on boys.
I wonder how long it will be before their rules are challenged under the Human Rights Act - and, importantly, what the outcome would be...
