Hey people, I am writing to say thanks, first of all to victor and to all you people who are so positive and supportive to one another about having long hair. I have been growing my hair since late '95 and it is now about level with my upper arm. I've been through many dillemas with it. When I started growing it, long hair on guys was still considered trendy and "cool" among most people and I was stoked to be growing my hair long... however, the fashion changed throughout '96 and even more so in '97 and short hair became and is still the trend. After over-processing with peroxide my hair once andgoing through the frustration of working it back into good condition I found that All my friends who once had long hair when it was cool had cut their hair and girlfriends and other friends told me i should cut it. I decided that I loved having long hair too much to cut it then, even with all the pressure to cut it from trends and friends. But recently (like 4 weeks ago) I decided to put some blonde streaks in the front my hair for a change and it ended up looking ridiculous and I hated it.. This was the time I was extremely close to cutting it, and did a net search for tips on what I could do to fix it and came across this hyperboard and after reading the postings I have decided to keep my hair long and work at fixing nursing it back to good health (even though the front is now black and there is still blonde streaks throughout it with the rest being brown) So yeah (wow I've rambled on) Keep up the support people :) and I do believe that we will come out of the tough times (i.e. long hairs being very much the minority group) soonish so keep it long and keep it true and dont cut that hair.. cheers.
Hey Lee,
I just had to respond to this. I once did that. Once I wanted something radical like blue black hair with a platinum blond streak running down the middle. Well my hair is very stubborn as far as bleaching went and after all the bleach I used, it came out a horrible egg-yolk orange. I was so embaressed that I wore a hat until my friend could redo it. My friend redid it and it came out better but it looked awful against my skin tone which is golden brown. I finally bought some black hair dye and dyed my whole head of hair. The gift in this was two weeks later when the dye started to wash out, I got these nice patches of blond showing through. It wound up working even better than my original plan. Anyway, I'm glad you didn't bend to cutting your hair. Who cares about fads anyway. I like people who march to their own beat.
Blessings to you!

Good for you, Lee.
The idea, as I see it, is NOT to cut one's long hair because short hair is the trend, but to *vary* one's long hair styling. That we we can change ... maybe even start a new trend ... without cutting the hair, which grows on average only 1/2 in./month. I said this before, but try various chignons, braids, coils, 18th century styles.
