I got this crazy idea about 6 months ago to color my hair (I have a lot of premature grey at age 36. I wouldn't mind if it was diffuse grey but it is just on the sides and I didnt want my hair to look like a coon skin cap when I wear it in a pony tail....Lmao...) Anyhow, The color was great but it faded in about 1 month and now it has a deep red tint.
"And the sign said - Long haired freaky people needn't aught apply"
"Permanent" hair color really isn't permanent. As it gets old, your hair tends to get "brassy", or have too much red, especially if exposed to sunlight. The cure is to reapply the color. If you liked the color in the beginning, you can probably just do it over with the same thing. The bad thing about hair color is that once you have started using it, you are now locked in to reapplying it every 6 weeks or so, both to get rid of the roots, and to get rid or the fading, or tendency to go red. I have had the premature gray problem since my early 30s also, and have been applying color several times a year since then. I am now 41. I would hate to see how gray it would be if I stopped!

You need to go for the ash / violet based colours - you're pulling red and theed the blue base tones.
I get away with Clairol Complements 8N or 8A - no red undertones.
Worst colour for me - Loreal Excellence - really red base tones.
Go to the beauty supply near you and speak to their colour person. They should be able to help you select a colour that won't pull red.
I'm 34 and my hair is quickly turning grey. I have thought about coloring it but I didn't feel like getting back into the hassle of getting my roots done and all, besides, I'm getting this cool silver streak running down the right side of my hair. People have complimented my grey saying it gives a nice highlight to my black hair. My belly dance teacher also has a lot of grey mixed in with her hair and she looks very good.
All in all I find grey hair appealing.

I know this is a long-hair board, but the latest medical information
on premature graying indicates a probable beginning of early and
severe osteoporosis, not only for women, but for men also. I'm not kidding on this. Please see your G.P. soonest!!
