In recent years I've experimented with pigtails with my waist
length hair. I will say they were hard to keep in. Came loose
more often than ponytails.
You really need to try it and experience it to
determine if it is right for you.

If you look around on the net, you can find pictures of Blind Melon's lead singer Shannon Hoon (rip) with pig tails. It was taken for the cover or Rolling Stone magazine.
