  Hi guys!

  Hope some of you still remember my struggle with the scholarship thingy. Well, I've accepted their offer, but guess what's their reply to my mail... here goes:

  After 5 days without any correspondence from them, I sent another email:

  "Dear Sirs,

  I hope you have received my email below. I understand that perhaps, this
  may seem to be a small issue to you (it's only hair). But still, I'll
  definitely be appreciative if you can give a little understanding to how I
  think, and provide me with some reflections on this.

  I really look forward to your responses on this soon :)"

  Immediately on the next day, the Director of my scholarship company (Prof. Lam), replied:

  "Hi HP (initials of the Deputy Director, Prof. Lee),

  I'm sure you'll have a creative solution to this issue."

  The Deputy Director duly replied:

  "Dear Adrian (that's me :)),

  Since you are still a student, as long as you keep your hair neat and tidy and
  obey the rules of conduct as a student of NUS, I have no problem with your
  personal choice.

  H.P."

  There is something left to be desired, that is, what happens after I graduate? Does that mean I gotta get it cut in order to serve out my bond (which is mandatory)? But anyway, I'll accept this decision for now and see how can I go about and around the system 4 years down the road. You see, things may change and I'm quite confident that I'll win this tussle.

        Hi Jin,

        Sorry for the length of time of the reply, i was out of town on a camping trip. As the name says i am a newbie to growing out my hair, well at least in over a decade. I used to have mid-back length hair when i was about 15. My last hair cut was October '02 and was pretty much a buzz except a little hair to spike up in the front. Nothing longer than .25 inches. I can now pull the front down to right below my nose, the sides are well below my earlobes and the back is just about to the top of my shoulders when i pull it straight. I have had no trims. My hair is thick and somewhat wavey, especially at the ends. Keep on growing and good luck with everything!!!

    There is certainly a bright spot or too here. In my past career in the scrap metal business I had the occasion to deal with Asian companies frequently. They seem very attuned to what we Westerenrs think and do. Invariably when buyers would come to inspect material there would be one guy with the ultra conservative "white side wall" cut. There would also be one with somewhat longer hair blow dried look and one with a perm almost bouffant do. If this practice still holds (and especially if longer styles return,hope,hope) Then you may be a hot commodity.
    You shouyld also look into h1b visas to work for U.S. companies (these can turn into permanent resident visas).

    So glad to hear that you won't have to cut off your awesome hair. Watching as a lurker for over a year, your progression and determination is very inspiring. Hopefully nothing causes you not to reach your goals, both with your hair and education. Take care.

    I bet after schooling they'll let you (your hair) alone, once they see that you keep your hair neat and tidy, and it doesn't get in the way of your work. What a wonderful thing you've done (are doing) for longhairs!
