Hi.
This board is a new discovery for me. Great to know it exists.
I've experienced an awful lot of pressure lately to cut my hair, mostly from friends who seem to think I'm due for a change, or that my hair is "dated" in some way. It's problematic for me, since I identify pretty strongly with a somewhat "non-mainstream" image. Strangely enough, I have no problems with it on the job, although colleagues certainly put in their two cents often enough about how they think it would be good for me to cut it.
To be honest, I'm worried about giving in and suddenly looking like I sell refridgerators at Sears. (Not that there's anything WRONG with selling refridgerators at Sears mind you, just not my world or what I do).
If anyone cares to check out my website and wants to give me some OTHER opinion, I'd sure appreciate it. I'm beginning to think that I'm the only one with misgivings about cutting it off.
I should have included to URL to my web site in the body of my posting, I think.

Don't give in! Don't give in! Your hair looks fine. Besides, who wants to sell Refrigerators. I've always bought my second hand. If your friends won't leave you alone order some of the cool Duncan MacLeod hair bands and wear it in a ponytail. The digit is (800) 234-5071. Current catalog price is $8.95.

Whew! Thank God, all I did was feed 3480 cartridges to a mainframe system all night long. The long hair would have been some excitement for me, but I don't think my then-colleagues would have approved.

Well cut your hair are you gay be a real man!
Dear John~ you posted this long ago, and you may not receive my reply, but I wanted to let you know we have two sons, one that wears his hair short, and one that wears his long. It doesn't matter either way to us, but the one with long hair has been insulted many times by co-workers, and family and so called friends. People need to look past the long hair, but they seldom do. Why is so much pressure put on people that choose to be different? The idea of 'norm' really narrows ones vision, won't you agree? Our long haired son is a hard working, responsible, caring person, but few people realize this, because they can't see past his hair. It's their loss. Hope you have a great day,and if your hair is still long, you enjoy it~ you may be bald headed one day, and you can look at the pictures of when you were young and say "I remember when"....
it matters only that you're happy with whatever hairstyle you wear. back when my hair was only 'longish' i started to get pressure to cut it; i responded by growing it longer. it has reached my beltline & no one gives me grief any more. i had not originally intended to grow it this long but i'm glad i did.
GROW IT LONGER-GRO IT LONGER
Hi-
Don';t ever but into pressure to conform. Buy into only the wish to be yourself and to support others in having an opportunity to do the same.
Jim
If you want to keep your hair long, keep it.. Gently point out to your friends and co-workers that the hair is your image and let it hang at that.. Tell them that it is time for them to bury the stigma that longhairs are in some way bad..

I REALLY think you should keep it too
Those who conform to the norm will always preassure those who do not. Stay outside of the box and keep your hair.
