It's going to be really difficult getting through this awkward stage for me. I can say this because I mow lawns with my father for my job, and this summer will undoubtedly be the hottest I've ever experienced. Nearly every day I will be outside in the stifling, stuffy, sweltering, humid, and generally hot heat... from the mowers AND the sun. It's going to be absolutely insane, I can already feel it.
If I were religious, I'd tell you all to pray that I don't get a buzz cut or something stupid in mid July. :)
I'm going to be wearing a bandanna the entire summer, along with drinking TONS of water. What about you all who are in the awkward stage and out in the heat? Any tricks?
Hey Evil Milkman!
I am a geologist in the southwest desert (ie: Death Valley area....120+ degrees and wind) also work in underground mines...
Slick it back, Tie it in a tail,(no matter how short or unmanly it may look), Wear the bandana and a Cool (fabric that is, not fashion statement...)Hat. At the end of the day, brush it out gently in the shower with lots of hair rinse.
No one cares what you look like when you are working and come the end of the summer, that mane should be looking real good.
Keep Cool and good luck

Just think - f you getvthrough this summer, you'll be well past the awkward stage by next summer, so this is your last summer of hair problems!
Wear a bandana, or some sort of hat - the broad brimmed white straw hats worn by cricket umpires or catholic priests and drink plenty - maybe milk?
Good luck - have fun - keep growing
You are better off with hair in the heat than with a buzzcut. Once
your hair gets soaked with sweat it will do a better job of keeping
you cool. With a buzzcut your sweat immediately evaporates and you
lose any insulating value your hair provides in keeping heat in when
its cold and keeping your body cooler when its hot.
But yes, to keep your sweat and hair doing their job and to keep you
from getting a heat stroke drink lots of water.
It gets mighty hot out there. I use to haul leaves for Ms Neal. She has a pile of dogs around that place. She's always telling me to keep it down. My thighs rub together when I get on #1 highway and walk to the college. I hate riding that white retard wagon with that jigaboo music playing. There might be enough SSI money to get me a new car. They gave me my license back. I'm gonna see if Tonya will go out. I don't know if she's still screwing Buck Fuchs or not or smells like cow crap.
I wonder if I should tell Mrs Pond that ya'll look like your mother cuts your hair? Yall have nothing to do with what I tell my counselor. I'll tell it all.
Well, I'm going to eat some more Hot Pockets and have another Mountain Dew. I weighed myself again on them scales and it said 260 but it might be that medicine I'm taking. I just ate 14 strombolis, 5 bags of M&Ms, 9 fruit pies and 4 3 litre bottles of Mountain Dew.
They say Pete might still be over at the lake but I don't know. I'm going to stick my flip flop up his brillo ass for calling me shower shoes. That bastud.
Yall take some care.
well said.
Who let that writer...
in here?
Somehow...brilliant.
Consider cornrows. They're not for everyone, but they did wonders for me while landscaping last summer.
Just wear a baseball cap and tuck your bangs (front hair) under the cap and you will be all set, the back will be fine as is.
There have already been a few (OK, maybe one) hot day and I too am
in the in-between stage. I tail up as much as possible to get the
hair off the neck and stuff what remains under a baseball cap and
forget about it the rest of the day.
Im going to be letting the sun do it's magic lightening on my hair. That and I'm going to keep braiding my hair. I just got some cornrows today and they rock.

Long hair is great for soaking up water...and cooling you off! Also, it will keep your ears, neck, and face from getting sunburn if properly positioned!!!
An outside job as a surveyer is actually the reason I started to grow my hair long!

Don't worry, after growing 5+ years of hair, seasons won't bother you.

It's not as bad as you think, I am sure you will adapt to the heat. I have survived several summers with long hair and no problem. Why are you thinking buzz cut in July? Is that when you are going to end your experiment, the same day you started it?
No, I'm growing as long as I can until I find a length I really like.
I lived through six Phoenix, Arizona summers with long hair. Temp gets up to 120 sometimes. Like others have said the long hair protects.
The last two years up in the canyonlands the summer temp doesn't get above 110 degrees. My hair is down to my tail end now. Its not a problem. Don't get a red neck with long hair.
