I was just wondering if anyone has a good way to get rid of what I call wings. Its when your hair at the bottom of the shaft just sort of wings out. My hair is about shoulder length so I'm thinkin that It might be from my hair hitting my shoulders. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

1) You can grow your hair longer, 2) or cut your hair above shoulder
length. 3) You can blow dry your hair so the ends curl in. 4) Or you
can cut your inner hairs (hair from the neck) shorter than your outer
hairs (hair from the top).
If you want to grow your hair longer, I suggest 1) or 3). Otherwise,
2), 3) or 4).
How about a nice quarter size of Aveda Confixer or KMS Gel and use a round brush and blow it dry on a slow setting. Should fix it right up.

Agreeing with Karen and the others who've advised styling, as long as you don't heat style so much that you cause split ends and other damage. Some of the texture differences between men's and women's long hair come from hormonal influences on texture, but *most* come from differences in haircare regimen, and probably a little bit from many men's ambivalencies about making their hair look "too good."

My own hair is about mid-back, bottom of shoulderblades length. When it was growing out, especially because I'd been wearing it in a longish, layered style, there were a lot of bad-hair days at the point when the longest hair was shoulder length, but many of the others were less than that. This could also contribute to "wings" in various places. For awhile I was a heavy consumer of hairpins to keep some of the wayward tresses under some kind of control.
Check your hair for split ends! This will cause it to 'wing' out..
