About 2 months ago, I had a sudden urge to have blonde blonde streaks put in my hair to the style of guitarist, James Iha of the smashing pumpkins. I have been growing my hair since '96 and my natural color is light brown but I wanted to go blonde half way through that year (when my hair just covered my ears) and I got a friends mother, who was (supposedly) a qualified hairdresser to do it cheaply. The end result was that she got caught up on the phone and way over-processed my hair. It was just about ruined. I've spent the past 2 years trying to condition my hair back to normal. Then about 4 months ago I died my hair brown again with a semi-permanent color, when it had nearly washed out, I had the James Iha blonde streak impulse. I went to the hair dresser and told them what I wanted. So I had really blonde blonde streaks put in (which obviously bleached through the former wash out color and over the already bleached color from '96 that had been overprocessed but was back in kinda good condition). The blonde streaks were the front part of my hair and a few in the back and sides. I had the rest of my hair dyed really dark brown (semi permanent). Well, it looked damn terrible, I was so pissed off with it that I came really close to cutting my hair all off. I then went to another hair dresser to have the disgusting blonde lumps in the front of my hair dyed over with some semi permanent brown. I've washed a lot of the dark color out but it is still darker than my normal hair color. I only really suit long hair with a light color, such as my normal color with a few frostings. I don't want to cut my hair as it has been a big effort to grow and I need to fix the color up. I still have the blonde streaks in the rest of my hair and the ones in the front are still covered with the brown semi color (which I have been told will never fully wash out. I want to get my hair back to normal and lighter and I want to get some blonde frostings put back in, but I am scared to put frostings in the front where the blonde was.. I cant go on with my hair this dark and I need to get rid of the blonde streaks.... Please can someone give me some advice on what I can do to fix my hair.
Thanks for reading.
Cheers.
HI
Yes
Stay away from a friend's mother or any other amateur if you want to keep your hair long and change the color. You will never go back to where you were.
If you don't want to cut your hair, better go to the best colorist in your town and ask her / him what would be the best compromise color to come close yo your desire.
You may have to let this disaster grow out completely before you can achieve the results you desire. Ten if you know the formula and the timing you MAY be able to get a friend to maintain it,
Best wishes.
Keep us posted about your results.

Hey man,
I'm having a little trouble following your story but as a hairdresser i will tell you that if you have been overprocessed odds are very slim that the hair will ever regain its normal condition.. The blond areas need to be filled with your base pigment and then colored with your desired level of tint..if you want the colored areas to be lighter than they are now they have to be bleached up to a certain level, filled and colored to your desired level...once that is accomplished then the highlights can be put back in...a very involved and expensive process but attainable Good luck Dan
