I see that religion is a big topic here? But my question is why? Long hair has nothing to do with religion...kinda off topic :)

Religion doesn't have anything to do with long hair, in and of itself. It's only when radicals want to push their beliefs on others is when sparks start to fly.
I look at it this way. I believe (or don't beleive) one way and I don't try to (overly) force my lack of belief on anyone else, unless they want to debate. Furthermore, I'm not going to tell them how to wear something as simple as their hair, unless they want to ask my opinion. Then, of course, I tell them: long!
I think that´s the problem with many people, mostly religious radicals (of every religion). They don´t accept other things or new things. Religions that "require" long or short hair are a little bit strange in my opinion because I don´t think that your hair has ANY effect on your belief, but anyway. That´s my opinion.
"They don´t accept other things or new things."
That is a very good point. They are not "open-minded" and therefore do not have their own opinions.
Religions require all sorts of things, that's the main charistic of a religion...you are required to believe in whatever kind of god they dream up or you can't really be a part of it.
Well, religion does have at least a little to do with long hair as some religions require hair to be long and others require it to be short, some say that you are not allowed to show it in public and others require it to be seen (beards for example).
As you've seen here, some people hold to the idea that their religious icons are depicted as wearing longer hair styles, whether or not it's factual.
In regards to the topic of religion apart from any hair connection, it's a big subject everywhere partly because so many people hold to so many different belief systems and partly because some of those religions feel it's their mission to get you to believe what they were raised to believe or stumbled across during their journey through life. I think that this board is merely a bit of reflection of the rest of the world but manages to do a very good job of staying on topic.
