I'm just curious how some of you wear your ponytails. What I mean is, do you leave your hair parted when you make the tail, or do you brush all your hair straight back first? I've seen it done both ways, and have tried it both ways. I prefer leaving it parted I think. Also after you make the tail, do you brush it? I have done this a few times and it seems to make it look a little better, but I'm afraid it will cause damage.
I usually dont wear it in a tail until later in the day when it
starts to look lame (i have fine 'moist' hair) so I leave the
hair parted but when it's pulled back the part starts to vanish
the closer it gets to the ponytail. I don't brush after making
the tail but then it's not all that long.
I comb my hair straight back first. I can't do the central part very well because I have a pronounced "widow's peak". I do comb my tail because as you say, it looks better. I just used the same rules for combing the tail as I do when it is loose...comb the ends first and undo tangles carefully.
I have seen ponytails with both parts and straight back. I think a defined part with a ponytail looks odd. I prefer the staright back look with a little gel to give it that polished look.
It's the only thing that works for me...
As to combing the tail...well...
mine never gets tangles so brushing it doesn't really make that much
of a difference.
One thing I do is scrunch it. This makes it better-behaved...
but not always.
I like the shiny look...pulled back, neat...shiny. . .
I usually just pull it back into a tail. Since I tend to wear mine higher than most guys do, parting it sometimes doesn't look right. I will sometimes brush it, but, will hold the tail just below the tie, so I don't start yanking the strands out of my scalp.
