I'm going to drive straight down the middle of those two options and say neither. I think it's like many other issues we have talked about here--what is a gentically acceptable face for growing long hair? What's really at stake is what is socially acceptable, fashionably acceptable, and those winds change all the time. It seems to me that if we take this course, what we end up with is sacrificing, again, personal integrity to the fashion god.
No good.

I am hoping everyone says it's a bad idea, because after I really got to thinking about it, it is a bad idea all the way around! SORRY!
I'm no expert in hair styling, but I believe that face structure is a factor in selecting a hair style and beard style. There are many types of long hair styles to choose from and many more types of beard styles. What hair style you prefer is the most important thing.
Give it to me straight, baby! I can handle it!
Here is what I think concerning your look. I really like the facial hair in that picture. That unconnected gotee look goes well with long hair. Personally, I think you would look better with brown eyes. Reguardless, I think you will look good with long hair. It would look best on you if when it gets past your shoulders...you could somehow give it more volume and a tiny bit of a wave. This is all just my opinion. Hope it helps.

I think more important than facial shape and structure, that the condition and thickness of the hair is key. A good facial structure means nothing if the hair you grow is nasty. I love my hair and I love to see long hair on guys if is healthy. Just because someone can grow the hair, doesn't mean it will look good to anyone but the grower.
Your hair looks great: shiney, thick and healthy. I think the same rule applies to facial hair. I think your facial hair isn't flattering. It appears too thin and whispy. You have fantastic eyes and the facial hair distracts from your eyes and head hair.
It is just my opinion.
I think time will tell Treyn. Honestly, I think you have a nice structure, kinda squared-off. Eyes are key, and you have nice blue eyes. Like many have already stated, it will be the style that you will eventually find as well as the type of facial hair, if any you decide to sport. Right now, it is not all that important until you get at least shoulder length hair, even all the way around.
I think facial structure plays a part in no matter how one wears their hair. (Lots to contend with: narrow or wide face, short or long, high Cheek Bones etc.) Facial hair also. All give different impressions and looks. (Bald vs Hair is one of the best examples.) If one were an actor in Hollywood, the so-called "experts" that know how to pull-off everything for the Actor would have it figured-out for their purposes. Actually, it wouldn't concern me personaly because I just know I want and have long hair........period. Would be rather fun however to find one of those places where you go in and your face only shows-up on some sort of screen where tons of different hairstyles suddenly appear on you one by one until you find the one style that you like the best and would know pretty-much how you would look with it.
If the hair grows out of your head, then that's what Nature intended for you.
I do not believe it is NOT the LENGTH that really matters so much...
perhaps it's HOW you WEAR it.
Some people look better...MUCH better...in a tail,
while some look great in braids...
others look wonderful with their hair LOOSE and SOME
can even carry off any of those combinations...
I, for one, look better with my hair in a braid or tail...
. . .but I really envy the guy who can DO PIGTAILS...
and get away with it!!!!!
As is the case with so many things, I think an inherently nice looking face allows more leeway in whether hair is worn long or short. By comparison, I think some guys with somewhat adrogynous facial characteristics, as one example, aren't as likely to look good with lots of hair. But that doesn't apply to you, Treyn, because, come on, you're one of the better looking contributors to this board, and you know it :)
In my opinion, the choices in clothing can be very helpful in making long hair "work" or look good. The appearence is more than just the hair and face.
Most people are conventional whether it suits them or not, so we might as well be unconventional with just as much disregard!
Anyway, from your picture I reckon longer hair would suit you.
