I personally don't have very long hair (yet), but it is getting there slowly. (After all I've only recently turned 18 and have not had much more than a year). But I like it, most days. Its very thick, but I have it in an undercut (like a "skater" type haircut) to keep it controlable. It is also very curly when left in its natural state. This is the wired thing. Every day, more or less, I wash it, blow dry it, and yes, style it with a curling iron. Everything on the highest heat. And it's, at leas in my opinion, gorgeous (I'm really not conceited, btu I really like it). But when I don't blowdry it, and torture it in such a way, it becomes dry, brittle and frizzy. I take pretty good care of it. i condition it, I deep condition it, etc. But other than that, its like the meaner I am to it, the better it looks. I even colour it. In fact I don't even remember my natural colour. the only problem I have, and its very minor, is a few split ends.
I am Catholic, and believe very strongly in God. If we, as a human race, were not meant to have long har, why would it grow? Anyway, the length of is only relative. Who's to say what is long and what's not? For some, if they shaved their heads with a Bic razor, it would still be too long. for others, if it dragged on the floor, it would be too short. For me, about to my clavicle all the way around is just right. I think that the "war" between long and short hair is a moot point. Does one's hair really matter to anyone but the bearer of said hair. If something as rediculous as the length of one's hair is a basis for judgement, then this is a sad world we live in indeed. Now I shall remove my self from my soapbox. Have happy hair always, whether long or short.
Luke
I think(i am not sure) the reason that your hair does better when you torture it is because you are forcing it to go a certain way.
It would be easier to let it be natural but probably not half as nice looking. All I can tell you is that years of blowdrying etc... will damage your hair and if you want it long, you better be nicer to it ,unless you like microwaved hair. Keep It Growing..........Peace
What result do you get from using a curling iron? Does it make curly hair straighter, or what? Someplace I heard that a curling iron can be used to straighten hair, but never got around to trying that. I also don't like the idea of using that much heat if I can avoid it.
I have fine, wavy hair that's about chin length and looks terrible if I don't do something to style it. I've tried using large velcro rollers. I roll the almost-dry hair then heat the rollers for maybe a minute or so with a blow dryer, then let them cool off for maybe 10 minutes. That's enough to make my hair a lot smoother and more "groomed" looking, for lack of a better word. The hair comes out mostly straight, with the ends curling under some. I like the rollers because they let me control my hair without much effort and without using much heat. I don't think of them as something for women's hair, but as something for anyone with long enough hair.

Yes. But you have to start at the roots and slowly slide the hot iron over the hair, with the cuticle. I usually curl it under a little too. but if you don't curl it long enough (just at the ends) then later it will flip out and you may end up looking like Carol Brady. I used to use hot rolers, but that took too long. If you want more about how I do it, just ask.
Thanks, I think I get the idea. It sounds like using a curling iron that way may be too damaging to my fine hair, but I could try one of those balm products for protecting hair from heat. I'm curious- how does the result with the curling iron compare to how it came out with the hot rollers (since I use rollers now).
Doug
The curling iron makes it straighter, and less "flouffy." It also allows more control, i think, and is easier to fix because all you have to do is re-curl any errent parts instead ot all of it,
Conair makes a blow dry curling iron that is fantastic- it is about 1.5 inches in diameter. You put one of the heat activated gels to protect, on semi dry hair then you can style gently by lifting and curling under which straightens, makes it fuller looking and very neat. It takes about 2 weeks to get the hand of it. As the hair gets longer, it actually becomes easier. JL
I have a question about what do you put in hair to blowdry it? I am black and i have longish hair and lots of volume too ...it takes my hairdresser about 2 hours to do my hair and he makes it look lovely. But he moved and other people no offense but have no clue about how to do my hair. But i tried blowdrying at home and it got to be too dry because I have no clue what to put in it.
appreicate any feedback
thanx
Well said, Luke! The war between long and short hair is a sad waste of time when there are so many real problems in this world that need to be addressed.
Tina
RIGHT Tina & Luke....... Interesting that hair left unassulted will grow to a considerable length, No one had something for us we haven't fully understood. I like my hair long and get nasty attacks over it and some tell me "I love your hair" I have started telling people with pretty flowing hair the same thing because I mean it. We all need to do that and support each other as much as possible. Just smile and go on when a negative comment is made.
