I was wondering if it will ever be accepted in this society of ours that a man can wear a barette or tortoisehell plastic headband? I use it at home but am quite unwilling to use it out on the job, even if I am a painter. Why are men limited to the use of accessories called ponytail holders. To me, barrettes and plastic headbands(small teeth kind) work wonders to keep it out of your face.Women just seem to take these little helpers forgranted which makes me mad. Do you think it will ever come about?
RESPONSE
Yes, I believe it will come about. I used to be very self conscious.,. but not now I read about some gus who like to "flash" rods in the 7-eleven and I don't have any criticism about that, because there is a part of me that has always wanted to FLAUNT my claiming the freedom of my locks. At a mature age, I don't over do, but I use a tie someties, and then I sue a baret some times, and then I use some "Goody," horn rib bobby pins to make a ball, etc. The hair pents are almost not visitble, but in a sense they claim more power by being almost invisible. Almost but not quite!.
But I don't really want to FLAUNT. If I decided that I wanted my hairstuylyst to set my hair on rollers but I wanted it to dry naturally, then I would put a scarf around my head and drive home, or possible without scarf. . I am a mature person, and there is a certain restraint. But younger folks should do it.
However, remember the argument for against flauanting a set. Namely that one wants ones "do" to be a mystery. One wants to creat the illusions that one onla has to come back from the gym, takae a shower and shake one's locks, and look what we have! So an open secret is the best balance between glamor and honesty.
I am too tired to revise or clarify what I have suggested. I'd appreciate your feedback.
In Japan where i live, it is a daily commom sight of young mem wearing
barrets and hairbands. it is fully acceptable
Hi Jack , Jamie.....Dittos Jack, my thoughts exactly.
I am wearing a fairly big, red velvet scrunchie to the company Christmas party in the holiday spirit! Seriously, I have no problem at least with scrunchies - wear them everyday. Haven't really tried other types of hair jewellery tho. But why not? One reaaon I grew it out was for style versatility :)
