Hello. I have just discovered your site and it seems the best forum to seek advice for my problem. I have been growing my hair for about 12 years and recently I have started to shed like a Persian cat in the middle of summer. I don't mean that I leave a pile of hair each time I sit down but I do see an increasing amount on my very soft hair brush. I have fairly dry hair which hasn't responded to my attempts to moisterize it. I have tried moisterizing shampoos, hot oil treatments, ect. I have not tried pre-natal suppliments but it might come to that. Contrary to Bill's point about shampooing, (chech out his site if you haven't yet. It's worth your time.) I have to clean my hair everyday since I am very active and I couldn't stand not washing it after a workout. I really need some good advice since I don't want to lose any more of my hair.
My question is: have any of you had this problem and what did you do to remedy it? Thank you.
Tim,
I personally have not had this problem, but my wife did. (I am a semi-longhair as I have about a years worth of growth. I don't know how old you are, but you might want to get your blood sugar checked. My wife started losing a great deal of hair and when she got her blood sugar checked, it was high. This can and will cause loss of hair. It may be a long-shot, but might be worth checking into.
Good luck....
Bill B.
Thank you for your suggestion. Was your wife diagosed diabetic? My family has a history of diabetes but I don't have it yet. I will continue to monitor my blood sugar anyway.
Tim,
She was definitely diagnosed as insulin dependent diabetic. Her family had a history of it as well.... so a check now and then would not hurt. Just from what you were describing, it sounded like what my wife went through. (Almost drove a doctor crazy until he found out why it was happening.) If you are eating a good diet with a fair amount of trace minerals (copper, manganese, iron..etc) and protein (amino acids), your shedding should stop on its own. Another thing that can cause it is stress...and who *doesn't* have that these days.
BTW.... I take a vitamin for women that is especially for hair, skin and nail growth. I have seen a visible difference in the health of my hair since I have been taking them. They are available at Walgreen's Pharmacy for about 12 bucks for a 30 day supply. (Might be worth a try....)
Good luck to you....
Bill B
If you could please provide me with the brand name of the product you are taking I would be thankful. There are a plethora of those available.
Thank you that won't be necessary. I have a walgreens about a block away and I will check it out tomorrow. Hopefully it will help. Thanks again.
Even if you are active, you should not have to wash your hair every day. I have the same problem with dry hair, and I wash about every 3 days and only rinse it and condition on the other days. This has helped the dryness and keeps the hair in better shape. The rinsing is sufficient to get the sweat out and keep it fresh.
