What sort of careers can a guy with very long hair can get into?
any type of career that a guy with short hair can get into.

they don't care if you have long hair here at Intel where I have worked for almost 8 years.
To name just a few:
Geologist, Meteorologist, Archeologist, Anthropologist, Engineer, Computer Scientist, Doctor, Lawyer, Actor, Miner, Driller, Librarian, Retail Clerk, Clergy....just about anything you want except military…..(those Marine DI’s play havoc with longhairs in Basic Training ! HA!)

Actually, i think some of the "you can do whatever you want" replies are not really true. it should be so, but it doesn't necessarely is.
you have to do something you're good at, something you're so good at that you can say "hire me for my skills, not my dress-code or my hair". if you're doing something that just about anybody can do, i think you're out of luck for most companies owned by conformist suits...
good luck, find what you like, and you will get there no matter what hair you've got.
(by the way something you're "good at" is for mosts persons the thing they like to do more. for me, it's programming.)

Biotech companies tend to be very tolerant of longhairs. However, much of this industry is funded by venture capital, and there tends to be periodic 'adjustment' of personnel due to poor outcome from a "Phase III Clinical Trial" or poor economic conditions in general. Still, such companies value people for what they have inside their head rather than what's growing on top if it (or not).
Anything in a technical field. I've found that employers generally don't care about hair length in the electronics/computer fields (I've been a tech for 20 years and never, ever had a problem with my hair at work).
In fact, where I work now, my hair is far from being the longest of the guys that work there.
