I can't believe noone's posted this yet. It's an awesome new reality show, and pretty much the only makeover show I enjoy watching. Its motto is: Five gay men, out to make over the world one straight guy at time.
But I was sure they were gonna catch some heat here over one of the first episodes, in which made over a guy by cutting off his hair that he had kept long for nine years. However, in this case, I believe it was truly an improvement. Even if he didn't look all too thrilled to see it go. Here's what he looked like before, you'll see what I mean.

But in an upcoming episode, they're making over a guy who has possibly the nicest hair I've ever seen. (See above) I'm praying that they just leave the hair alone. I mean, they wouldn't give them a show if they were insane, right?
Getting fashion tips and advice is one thing but in my opinion it seems crazy to be totally made-over by a group of strangers whose lifestyle is quite different from yours. How would I look if a bunch of twenty-something surfer dudes made me over? Or a group of teenage sk8ter girls? If someone were to do a makeover on me it would best be another engineer, but one with good fashion sense (there are some). In other words, this show seems to be setup more for the entertainment value than to ensure a good result.
They did not make him over in their genre. They seemed to totally respect who he is and his lifestyle and make him over into a more heightened and spiffy version of himself for an opening of his art work in a gallery. From the looks of him, he would not have had anything in his wardrobe that would make a good impression in the Art world.
I think they did a very respectable job.
"From the looks of him, he would not have had anything in his wardrobe that would make a good impression in the Art world."
Have you seen photos of ANDY WARHOL's hair?
People need to stop being stupid about people cutting their long hair. Some people seem to think even if you look completely hideous with long hair or have horrible long hair, they must keep it. The guys did not look better before and if you think so then you are a complete idiot with an IQ equal to that of a monkey with down syndrome. They let themselves go, they looked horrible. Not everyone is cut out for long hair. If these people couldn't take the time to take care of their long hair and treat it like that, then maybe they shouldn't have long hair. Also, if you feel strongly about something, you won't just cut it cause a gay guy tells u to. You would refuse and ask for a makeover with long hair. However, the whole gay men doing the make over is pretty stupid and irrelevant. Just a marketing tool. Wearing latex a$$huger short shorts with a see through belly shirt might seem good to them, but not to me.
Good point. I jumped to the (perhaps wrong) conclusion that the haircut was an effort to make him over in their 'genre'.
he does look better with the hair cut, but you don't know if he could keep it looking that way.
Or, if just doing things to his hair instead of CUTTING it would have made him look better.
The guy's hair is very thin and fine. What could one do with it that would make him look better without cutting it?
They could have used some products for hair of that type. Or curlers. I'm sure they could have done something. I'm not a hair stylist, so I don't know all the tricks, but there are ways.
There's no way they can do things with his hair. It's very thin and fine. If you perm it, it will be a complete disaster. More split-ends and broken hair strands. Vidal Sasoon salon told me once that there is now way you can fix your damaged hair if it's already long grown. The only thing you can do with it is to cut it, repair it from the root so it'll grow again as a nice and healthy hair. It's like starting all over again. Beside, I never really see a guy looks good with long hair. Long hair on guys give them the filthy, un-treated and shady looks. But then again, that's my opinion.
Please. In my opinion the guy looked like a late 70's wanna be rock "dinosaur" and needed a reality check. Maybe this show is just what he needed to get him into the 21st century..
Let's just hope he's seen the light and sticks with it.
i think the guy looked better before
i personally can't stand those makeover shows and i never watch them,
almost 100% of the time the people on there looked better BEFORE there "makever"
Both those guys have great hair, what are you talking about??
Every time I see stuff like this makes me glad I got rid of
the television years ago.
I think the next episode that you posted the pic from will feature the long haired guy getting his hair cut, but left in some layered, shoulder length style. He has great, dark hair.
As far as the make-over shows. If they freak you out...do not watch them.
People cut their hair every day....and no one dies from it. No one hit these people over the head and forced them to be on the show. If they do allow themselves to get talked into getting their hair cut for a make-over show.....then they are stupid and get what they deserve (even if they look 100% better).
SOME long haired folks need to get over themselves and not worry about everyone elses hair. It is a waste of energy. You need to accept you are a minority in this lifetime and let things roll off your back.
Be CALM and cool and enjoy your hair long.
Some DID actually look 'better' but some did NOT...
Too bad they can't show a computer-enhanced BEFORE/AFTER preview...
BEFORE the actual CUT...
Then maybe everybody involved would be...
more RELAXED!
If the person REALLY didn't want his/her hair cut, it wouldn't be.
I know I would agree to a makeover, with the stipulation that not one strand of hair be cut or colored.
But then, that one probably wouldn't be aired, or wouldn't happen at all.
The Bravo website says "...his long hair is limp, without layers or texture." The other guy's bio was much more critical of his hair (as the photos proved and we all seem to agree - it was not good long hair.) But this guy really does look great with long hair, and I think they know that. And no offense to the "naturalists" here, but it could use just a little sprucing of some sort. While there's nothing wrong with untamed long hair, most people need to have it taken care of and shaped/styled/whatever.
Just my two cents.
Initially, although disappointed (I thought he looked better with it long), I was willing to accept the haircut as reasonable. However, the negative comments about the other guys' long hair at the art reception were disturbing. Some of those guys' hair looked great.
The guy is going bald, with deep recessions at the temples. In cases like that short hair is the only way to go. Combovers always look bad.
...They have NOTHING to do with reality at all. EVERY 'makover' show I've ever seen, involves immediately cuttting the person's [victim's] hair -- to fit some neo-fashion "trend".
Generally, these shows recruit "yuppie" types, or people that fit the particular shows' style [always yuppie-ish]. They are always young college types [from what I've seen]. Do any of these people work for a living? I doubt it.
IMO, this is the worst c_r_a_p I've ever seen on television (all of it). It's just a grab for ratings [and money, of course]. Not to mention, degrading society. Take "Paradise Hotel" for example (NO -- I WON'T watch this lame show, either). If you don't act like a SLUT -- you're out. Yeah, great values to teach the youth of this nation.
Any "longhairs" on these shows aren't TRUE longhairs. They don't care about their hair -- they only care about what's "mainstream" or "popular" -- or they've sold-out to be POPULAR. Can you say PHONY?
The only reason I watched "American Idol" was to see the losers that couldn't sing -- they were hilarious (and pretty bad)!
NO ONE is ever going to change my hair; my clothes, my thinking or anything else for that matter -- doesn't matter if the person is gay, straight, or an alien from some distant planet. I think for MYSELF.
No one else's opinion means anything to me.
Actually, it's not true that most makeover shows only recruit "yuppie" types. There is one makeover show (I forget what it's called) but the hosts are a pretty average female and a pretty long haired man, pretty as in pretty long hair, not a pretty man.

Well, happily they let Tom keep (most of) his long hair. I have to admit, when I saw it on TV it looked just overgrown and uncared for. He at LEAST needed his split ends taken care of. The cut they gave him (which the girlfriend thought was a lot cut off) looked great to me, more like how I want mine to end up anyway. So happy ending from my perspective. (And that fish recipe seemed pretty easy and good too; I'll have to try it.)
I thought Tom looked good with his hair both ways - longer and long. I am really happy they didn't cut it short. I thought Lisa and Tom looked nice together - and that Carson was too harsh sometimes! No one bashes him so why does he bash???
