I began growing out my hair a bit over one year ago, and my bangs
are long enough to reach my shoulders and a lot of the hair in the
reaches even farther down my back.
In the shorter stages my hair was always smooth, but now more and more
I am seeing more of what appears to be broken hair appearing and
created a more fuzzy look. I'm wondering if I am brushing it wrong,
or just pulling through tangles and not realizing I'm doing something
which could have adverse effects to my hair in the long run.
And suggestions or tips for good strategies for when and how to comb
long hair would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Samson (and yes, my real name, as ironic as it may seem is Samson ;)
assuming the damage results from pulling your comb through snags:
start by combing or brushing the ends and work your way toward the root. do not force tangles- work stubborn one out with your fingers. also- comb before you take a shower. it makes the post-shower comb or brush easier. use a good conditioner and limit shampoo use to once or twice a week- it dries and brittles hair.
you're going to see some shorter hairs as 'resting' hair that has fallen out restarts the growth cycle. this is normal.
Dear Samson,
John has some excellent recommendations outlined for you in his response to your posting. I do want to highlight the importance of his recommendation to remove tangles before shampooing...wet hair is much more prone to stretching; thereby weakening the strands and inviting breakage.
I also find it helpful (not to mention relaxing) to have someone lend me a hand occasionally by brushing my hair for me, since I sometimes don't have the time or patience to be as gentle with my hair as I should be.
Best of luck to you in your quest for healthy hair. Keep in touch and let us know how it's going, ok?
Bye,
Tina
I have one of those $3 brushes with little knobs on the ends of the bristles.. Since my hair is very thick, I have to be careful when I brush.. I think I learned on this board to use this type of brush and gently TAP the brush into the hair against the scalp without stroking.. this action removes the tangles and works wonders with my hair at any rate.. Also, you're always going to have shorter hairs that have replaced the ones that have fallen out...
RVE..
Is there any natural and useful products out
there that would actually speed up the
process of growing my hair long?
I'd really be interested if there were.
I have long hair but not too long and I want to layer my hair long layer. But I have bangs and I don't know if bangs will look good with layered hair? I really don't want bangs anymore what do I do? please e-mail me. Thank you very much!
There is a site that focuses completely on long hair, and has excellent information on hair care that has really helped me.
