I have been growing my hair out for roughly a year. My hair is just below my jaw (not quite yet at my chin) and I am able to chew on it (which I do not do). How long will it take before I can pull it back into a ponytail?
I would say that you need roughly 12 or 13 inches of bangs with everything else pretty much consistent to that throughout before you can get a decent comfortable ponytail that will stay in neatly without falling out anywhere. This will be where the bangs has a couple of inches extended beyond the place where the ponytail band is holding it all in place at about the middle to lower end of the back of your head. Trying to get all your hair in a ponytail at less than this can be a problem with all of your hair staying in the ponytail band. Hope this has helped and made any sense. BTW, I am right at where you are in the bangs length, so I am still waiting for enough length to get a decent ponytail. I calculate about 11 more months of growth to reach this standard for myself (5.5 more inches in the bangs, the rest will be more than long enough by then). Good Luck and Peace!
With your hair growth, Treyn, you'll have one for the holidays.
You might to be able to get it into a ponytail now.
A trick I used when my hair was jaw-length might be helpful.
When pulling back your hair, give your hair a gentle twist to either the left or right as your hands come together near the base of the ponytail you are creating. The gentle twist gets the hair towards the back to sweep over the not-long-enough front and side hairs and clamp down on them.
It's not too sturdy, and you'll need to reset it often. But it will give you relief from hair hanging in your face.
Good luck.
Actually, you can do it RIGHT NOW and see the effect of the "future" when ALL hair finally reaches the back. Hear's how: Gather all the hair you can that will hold together from sides to back. Double-up a Pony Band and slip the hair through. (Works best lower down.) Bingo! It is better than nothing and looks great. (But, there is still a problem to remedy with the sides that still won't reach.) Just pin this hair back..........hardly to not at all noticeable. The front Bangs will be a breeze to just tuck behind your ears. Makes the rest of the awkward stage a piece of cake! Good Luck. (Oh, about the "Hair Pins." In case something like that would make you feel uncomfortable, some are now made that match the colour of hair and have what appears to be streeks of hair going across them. Just about invisable.)
