I have a concern here. I engage in activities that require near contacts with other people. of course before i engage with this activity, i take a bath and wash my whole body including my long hair. My question is will it be bad for the hair to be washed again after this sweaty encounter? I at least do this activity three times a week. Will shampooing and conditioning my hair more than nine times a week ruin it?
I would go to WWW.hairgasm.com and fill out the questionaire about you and your hair / problems and LMH will email you on what to do. She is a Long hair specialist dedicated to long hair only (thank God for her) and she really knows her stuff (one sharp lady, longhaired lady). Whatever she says to do, Do it, I have and glad I did. Long hair is worth the effort and is rewarding so GO FOR IT and you'll be glad you did.....Randall
Hey Ninja,
Nine times a week is a bit brutal - you might want to cut back on it quite a bit. Each time you wash in plain water instead of shampoo helps your hair, and each time you forego washing altogether helps, too, so long as you don't get carried away with cutting back the washings. For starters, I'd try washing it about three times a week, and then adjust things from there. A survey on here about a year ago revealed that the average amount of washings done by longhairs is in that range.
Keep in mind that hair does not acquire an odor rapidly like some parts of the body do. Generally, if your hair has been washed in the last two or three days, it should not harbor any odor at all, and even if one goes a week without washing, the odor is generally quite mild and not at all unpleasant. So it is not necessary to wash it nearly as often as you suggest. Just washing it three times a week, after your three workouts, should be about right. If your hair is particularly greasy, a fourth wash, so you never go more than two days, should do the trick.
