I am a white male with "bad" white hair..frizzy and curly...perfect for locks. So I had a friend help me lock my hair.. all natural. Ansd they went very easliy and nicely. Problem is he did not get it tight enough to the scalp on all the locks. I have about a half an inch to an inch on some of them. How do i fix this? Do I start using some kind of product? Do I try and twist and tease the ends? Or do I just leave them alone.

my understanding of dreadlocks is that you have to maintain them by continually twisting them every day or two.
I juts hope that that is enough!!!I don't want to lose my beautiful locks!
I dont know who long you have had them, but I know of more than one person with straight hair, how have done dreds, and ruined their hair.
Wound up tearing it out. The hair (blond) was very fine, and could not support all of the weight of the added wool. His was down to his waist.
Besides the problem of odor, he had the problem of individual dreds pulling out and leaving bald spots!
In the end, he had to get rid of them. And of course, you cant undo them, so he had them shaved! 4 ft of dreds (still has them somewhere), on the floor.
Keeps his head shaved to this day!
Just be careful!

It sounds to me like your friend did not care for his hair properly.
You seem to be contradicting yourself here.
Odor shouldn't be a problem with proper care. What was the cause of individual dreds coming out -- uneven tension?
It is possible to undo them. There is a website somewhere that explains how to do it. Sorry, I don't have the URL handy, but you will find it pretty quickly if you search around for dred-related sites.
so how exactly to you put dreads in your hair?
