The images and styles section have been updated. The last picture on the images page is a picture of me in a Spanish braid.
Victor,
When I saw that new pic I didn't realize that it was you. I was going
to write and ask if you had interviewed the fellow. It's fantastic!
Who braided your hair? Can you tell us the steps? How did the decorations get added? Is it the same on the left side as the right?
That's the most impressive style I've seen for long hair. Do you have
more pics?
Don
Unfortunately, I don't have any more pictures of that braid on myself. The person who made the braid does, though, and I think I know someone else who does, too. I got the idea for the braid from Frank Ploenissen's "The Long Hair Site". Pictured there recently was a lady with a Spanish braid (see link below for a copy of the picture). I described this braid to the lady at Scarborough Faire who was braiding hair, and she put in the braid that you see.
On my head, the braid starts as a French braid from my left temple diagonally across my head to the back right. Then, the French braid goes back across to the left, picking up hair on its way. When the hair gets to the left side, the French braid continues as a regular braid until there is no more hair.
There are two differences that I see between my braid and the one on TLHS. On my braid, there is no curtain of hair hanging from the bottom braid. Also, the direction switch is more gradual than on the TLHS picture.
If you can French braid your hair, try this out. Oh, yeah. I almost forgot. The decorations are simply tiny silk roses on wires. You can get these at a hobby store. The stem is bent up to make it shorter and simply inserted into the braid.
I will try to put the URL for the image in the image link, but I don't think that will work since it's on an ftp server.
