I have heard that boar bristle and porcupine quill brushes are
supposed to be really good for one's hair because they don't
break it as much and help distribute oil. How good is the evidence
for this claim?
Also, where can I buy such a thing? Do they sell them on the Web?
I see no one's responded to this Albert, so I'll pitch in my
two cents. Some people hate them, but I personally won't use
anything but a boar bristle brush. They are wonderful for my
hair, very firm but not destructive and they don't make my hair staticy like nylon bristle brushes do. You can spend upwards of $150 on a brush like one from Mason Pearson (don't ask me what on earth this brush does that could possibly make it worth $150, but that's what they cost!) I like a simple wooden handled, all boar bristle brush that I find at K-Mart or WalMart for about $3. Look really hard at any drug store, discount place or even the grocery store in the hair accessories aisle and tucked in an obscure corner is usually one style of natural brush. I recommend them highly, I just wouldn't pay more than $5 for one.
