My hair is healthy, but it is curly for about 2" from the end. This is because the length puts weight on my hair so the rest looks straight. I want to cut it because it keeps breaking, but I cant see myself with short hair, and if it's going to be curly, I dont want to cut my hair. Besides, It's already bad enough having a rats nest dangle off of the back of my head.
I was thinking I should cut it a little above shoulder length and see what happens.
Any suggestions? please e-mail me
The question, Neil, is where you want the curls to be, because no matter what length you trim, they will be at the ends, wherever they might be. The worst place for curls in many folks' opinion would be around the middle of the head, a severe case of "awkward stage" hair. If you crop closer than what produces that, you'll just be curly-headed - all over your head. If you crop lower, you'll be curly only above the shoulders or only behind your back, depending on how low you make the cut. "Behind the back" is where people will notice the curls the least, of course.
If you trim, remember that the hair will curl up from the spot you make the cut. So if your aim is "shoulder length", for example, don't trim right at your shoulders, because your hair will not end up there, but rather about two to three inches (5-8cm) above your shoulders instead.
