hi, my hair is abouut 7 inches long and i guess im in the bad hair phase right now. i have hair growing to the side of my cheeks(looks something like sideburns). i was wondering should i get the hair to the back of my ear or just leave it there because it looks kinda weird with hair sticking out on both sides of my cheeks. pls help!!!
Just leave it be. If you stick it behind your ears you'll look goofy. Be patient and let it grow.
Does getting the back and sides trimmed / shaved actually help in any way whatsoever? And does it in any way make the awkward phase easier?
(People have told me this, but all I can see is that it would make things awkward at a later stage..anyone care to verificate this?)
Do not listen to those dorks! While the idea might be tempting, it's not going to offer a permanent solution. The first time I grew my hair long I made the mistake of getting the sides and back shaved. This is commonly known as an "undercut". Once you get that hair shaved, you'll be stuck in a rut for a long time, because that hair isn't going to catch up with the rest any time soon. You'll have hair that's in the awkward phase mixed with long hair. Ugh! There's no instant solution for those who want authentic long hair; you'll just have to endure that dreaded awkward phase, use gel, mousse, etc. Many have done it before and so can you.
I thought so :)
The thing I'm more annoyed about is the fact that you get to a point where your hair is no longer stylable in any way - it begins to get quite irritating and I tend to hog the bathroom for longer than my mum ^_~;

That's true. Been there, done that. You might also get comments from certain people (I did), but that's all part of it. Some have suggested that if you have split ends you'd have to let someone qualified take care of them. That's to prevent your hair from growing long but messed up. There's some truth to that. However, by taking proper care of your hair you should be able to minimise split ends. I've been growing my hair for a little over 2 years now and I don't have a problem with split ends at all.
Yes you are. But if you really want to be a Longhaired Guy you will make it...
Come back to this Board from time to time for some support & encouragement...and...
Good Luck!
Yes, indeed your patience is being tested. But you are getting so close. By Jan.-Feb. it will suddenly all fall into place and be a piece of cake.
If not afraid to use them, "Hair Pins" matching your hair colour would help greatly for holding that hair behind the ears............and besides, they are only temporary until all grows into place.
Good luck............you're almost there!
Gel is your friend ^_^ So are we...you can do it! If you're ever feeling like you just want to chop it, think of all the people who will be running their fingers through it and complimenting you once this stage is over!
