This is a question from a long hair wannabe, to the REAL long hair's out there. I've been monitoring this board for a long time now, and in the past, as well as just recently, the mention of men wearing long wigs came up. What is the general opinion of this group on that? Do you feel like we're violating a certain code that longhair's have? Do you feel like we're taking the "easy" way out. Would you feel comfortable having a conversation with a man who wore a long wig. I myself have never worn a wig, but plan on it since I cannot wear long hair because of job ethics.
And for the ladies who stroll by from time to time, what is YOUR opinion? I've noticed some of them supported their boyfriends / husbands. If you didn't know he would do this, and then suddenly admitted it to you, what would you have thought?
While I enjoy this website, I'd like to see one devoted to us wishful thinkers.
Well, I can't say for the GROUP, but for myself, there is no problem in wearing a wig.. Not only will that give you the 'feel' of being a longhair, it will give you a taste of the attitude that people have for male longhairs.. Just be ready to shuck out the green..
A quality wig that will be convincing can be several hundred.. A very dear friend of mine is battling breast cancer and the chemo caused her lovely shoulder length hair to fall out.. She and I searched many stores and salons in Birmingham, Al with little success.. We drove to Altanta to a shop where she paid $800.. And I will admit it looks fantastic.. Face to face, you can't tell it is a wig!!!
Let me know if i can be of further assistance....
RVE..
I've always wanted to grow my hair to my butt or beyond but my Scandinavian hair follicles just aren't up to the job. A wig or extensions are the *only* conceivable way I could accomplish this. With very long wigs the choices do seem a bit limited, though.
Oh, and don't forget: it can take 4, 5, 6 years to grow real long hair, but with a wig it takes just minutes :) The downside is that a wig is fake :(
I don't mind if a man wears a wig as long as it doesn't look too ridiculous. Meaning, find one that suits you. Once I cut my hair off and enjoyed it short, but at times wanted it long so I bought a very good authentic wig. Most people thought it was my hair. I also once dated a doctor who had short hair and moonlighted with a metal band and he wore a wig. It looked good on him.

I'm curious if anyone here has dealt with complete balding on top.
I have had a hairpiece for several years and have let my own grow out in back for a bit over a year now.
I don't want to do something that looks "suddenly" longer but what I have left is VERY slow growing, thin and all over the place. It's about 5 inches below my collar and I want it about half way to my waist. I'm trying to grow it out and follow it with the "rug". Any ideas from anyone who has tried this?
I met a friend in exactly the same situation. After a lot of research and other tries with various things, he settled on a custom made hairpiece from a place called Farrell. They're in California but have a bunch of affiliated salons around the US.
As his hair grew out, he replaced the hairpiece with one longer and longer. Since you say your hair grows very slowly anyway, you'd probably be able to just replace yours with the next step longer as the hairpiece needed replacement or service naturally. His is beyond shoulder length now.
Very pricey (about $2700) but also very natural looking. Feature of it is a very fine lace edge front that blends in with your forehead and makes hair appear to grow out of your scalp in front. Clips on side and back hold it to your remaining hair.
Email me if you'd like more info.

Your hair seems to be growing at a normal rate. Most people's hair grows about 6 inches a year. It should take about three years to reach mid-back length.
