Is it possible to grow your sideburns out all the way down to your chest length OR EVEN LONGER???
i want to try this out.....
Provided your question is serious:
The word "dundrearies" initially came to mind. Lord Dundreary had long flowing sideburns, and the style became popular in the United States after the Civil war. An issue of the Irish news had a report on whiskers, wherein a descendant of General Burnsides complained that his image was used to sell shaving cream. In part of the discussion the judge discussed Lord Dundreary:
Dundreary had the most beautiful whiskers in the world,
said the court, and anyone who craved for whiskers
would give half of all he possessed to have them like
those of Lord Dundreary. If there is no remedy for the
plaintiff, Justice Erlanger said, the legislature should
make one.
Note that sideburns were named after General Burnsides.
I am attaching a drawing by Thomas Nast of Uncle Sam portraying Lord Dundreary. If you click on Go and zoom in a few times, you can get a big picture. What looks like hair down to his shoulders is actually sideburns, which became known as Dundreary sideburns or just Dundrearies.
I can't imagine trying to grow anything like that, but as long as your hair will grow, it is possible. Just remember, it will take a LONG time!

One last try.
About five years ago I saw an Asian guy in Berkeley with what I believe were sideburns almost down to his waist. Of course he had very straight hair, so they probably grew easily. It looked really cool. It wouldn't work for me. When I started growing my hair out three years ago I wanted to grow everything except the bangs and top. After about a year (maybe less) the hair from over my ears was frizzy and unruly, so I had the hairdresser cut it short (a mistake). Now I am having to regrow it. I have learned a lot since then. For one thing I will make sure to trim my sideburns which are frizzy when they get long. Plus I no longer dry my hair by rubbing wildly like I did when my hair was short (ugh). I now gently squeeze it with the towel. Hopefully that will prevent a lot of frizzing as that hair grows longer (its just over the top of my ears now). I also have to contend with gray hair which is appearing in this area (the joys of being 52), but hopefully a leave-in conditioner will help. So a lot depends on the type of hair you have. If you have straight hair it will probably grow great.
Oh, I had one other experience that might have been long sideburns. While in Japan in 1994 my wife and I were staying at a Japanese Inn. When I got up during the night to use the communal bathroom I entered the hall to see a guy who had what appeared to be an extremely long beard (at least to his waist). It was snow white. I was never sure afterwards whether I was dreaming or actually saw him. But perhaps the exremely long hair was sideburn hair. In any case it makes for an interesting memory!
GOOD LUCK and keep it growing!
