My stylist tells me that a shampoo product called Nioxin will speed up
the growth of my hair. I'm currently a short-hair becoming a long-hair. She says that it will also nourish my hair and keep it healthy. I'm skeptical. Does anyone know anything about this. Help! I would like to speed up my growth, but do not want to damage my hair.
Thanks.
Most of what I've read about Nioxin would indicate that it is strictly for strengthening hair at the root; no one, including the manufacturer () is making any claims about increased rate of growth for existing hair.
I started using Nioxin products about a month and a half ago at the suggestion of a trustworthy friend (who heard it from her trustworthy stylist). I am growing my hair out, but I was particularly concerned about my hair thinning on top, which Nioxin is supposed to help prevent.
I haven't been using it long enough to judge about the thinning, but I did notice *immediately* that my hair combed out without any tangles, more so than with any other products I've tried. That's got to cut down on breakage and pull-outs, which would be a help in growing your hair long. Also, the stuff seems to leave less build-up, so I get an illusion of more hair due to volume.
However, it is expensive. If your hair is tangle-free with whatever you're using, and it's not thinning, it's probably not worth it.
I've been using the Nioxin shampoo for a couple of years. I bought it after my stylist used it on me in a salon just because I really liked the peppermint smell and the kind of tingly sensation when it's first applied. Subsequently I read that this is supposed to be *the* product line for people who have concerns about thinning hair. I've noticed no difference at all in that area (my hair is the only part of me that *is* thin), but I still recommend the shampoo. Smells great, leaves my long hair clean and free of tangles, and a little bit goes a very long way (which is cool because the stuff is expensive). You can usually save by buying the stuff at a discount beauty supply.
. . . jim strain in san diego.
The conditioner, on the other hand, seems to require a lot to cover hair the longer it gets (and I'm growing my hair out again now - it's only 6-8 inches at this point).
What are you using for a conditioner? Or are you using one at all?
Nioxin is very expensive, but there is a generic form of it called Nutriox. I don't know about the growth rate factor, but it smells nice and makes your hair soft and tangle free. I can't use Nioxin becasue its so expensive(I am after all a poor high school student), but even if the Nutriox doesn't help hair growth, I'd reccomend it.
