i usually like to watch TLC's show, what not to wear. but over the weekend they had a show with this incredibly attractive guy on there with absolutely gorgeous shoulder length hair. now, granted, some of his clothing choices where horrendous, but after his clothing make-over, what did they do? you guessed it, chopped ALL of his hair off. i was furious! yes, it was his hair, and it was his choice to make, but quite honestly, i didnt like how he looked afterward. they should have just left it alone. at the most maybe cut it chin length with layers or something. all that beautiful hair...gone. i hate trendy fashion. :(

OMG!!! Those after pics are horrible! I dont watch the show, but it seems that hairstyle is not included when they call a show "What Not to Wear".
They dont always get it right on these shows do they?
Advice: Never volunteer yourself to these shows! Cheap TV made at your expense!
I hate that stupid show on TLC. Those 2 hosts need makeovers themselves and they both deserve 2 big slaps upside their heads. Ummm...do normal people shop at those stores? Yes. We expect you to shop at Dolce and Gabbana from now on. Give me a damn break!
I watched the show twice and Eric looks fine. Sure, he looked GREAT before (And I was AMAZED at how nice his hair was for a guy who didn't take much care into it) but he still looks great after.
I'll admit I preferred the longhair on him, but he reminds me of Tom Cruise. I'm sure he'll have no troubles in getting women now. :P

It took me five minutes trying to type in those site addresses...I still couldn't connect...howabout a link?
??? TYPE ???
Just select (mark) the text with your mouse and press Ctrl+C (Copy). You now can paste it in the address textbox of your browser with Ctrl+P (Paste).
you typed it all out instead of copying and pasting!! LMAO!!!!
Thanks John...yes, I am technologically impaired and rather new with a computer...but I am learning!
you typed it all out instead of copying and pasting!! LMAO!!!!
Highlighting the url and then copying & pasting it into the address space...
does make it a bit easier...not to mention (but I will) that it
avoids the possibility of making a mistake when typing.
It is even easier when someone makes a nice LINK to the pics!
sorry, LucksKind, i usually make URLS a link by pasting them in the little 'optional link url' there at the bottom, but i had too many links for the post lol. didnt want to post 4 times just to past pictures. sorry for the inconvenience. :(
Now he looks like a 20 year old little boy who has never talked to a woman. ( How good that I don't have any prejudices :) )
I actually saw it too and thought he looked better with the short hair. I was really hoping they'd do something with his hair, which was pretty flat and uninspiring. I thought a lot could have been done with layers/color/products, but he did look better to me with the "after" style.
I'm sorry,...but I just cannot agree that the "after" is an improvement over the "before".
I happened to be clicking around and caught that too.
Fine that the subject was willing to let someone cut it but the thing about it was how the guy cutting the hair took such joy in doing it. Chuckling as he held the hair out and cut each handful and then throwing it on the floor. He just gave off the impression that all long hair was always bad and the best thing to do with it is to cut it, he could hardly wait to hack this guy's strands.
he looked MUCH MORE distinctive WITH the hair...
Now he looks like any other guy on the street.
Actually, it's hard to believe it IS the same guy..
even though I know it's true!
Don't you all think get tired of mourning all of the TV make-over haircuts?
This guy was willing and enthusiastic about his haircut. He liked the finished product.
with all due respect, this is a long hair lover's hyperboard. excuse me for thinking he looked better with it long. we're all allowed to voice our opinions, and in this case, dissaproval of what we see.
With all due respect, this is the internet.
I am not saying I disagree with your opinion. What I said is that he liked the outcome of his make-over. If Eric (from this episode) came and told you that HE thinks YOU would look better with a different hair style, would it matter to you?
*Excuse me if I yawn*
I don't think that we mourn persay but rather are disgusted. Our disgust is not so much about the subjects getting a change but the message that the shows ALL seem to be pushing, which is that hair is better shorter on both men AND women and whenever the shows see long hair they have to cut it off. We don't buy that here but we feel the effects of these shows as we interact with people around us who so see them and then communicate those "great" ideas to us because we have long hair...and obivously need a change since we have had the look for "so long".
Kind of misses the point that long hair takes time + care to grow and should not be done away with on a whim, the kind of whim that transient fashion trends are all about.
The biggest fashion element is the clothing so why not just concentrate on that huge look change and on more "passive" hair styling tips? That would have more impact on people showing them how to work with what they already have than giving them a whole new (and simpler?) set of elements to live with. It's a fact that you can do more with long hair than short, why just hack it off for a change? What you really want people who are the subjects of these shows to learn is how to look at their style with more creativity, so how do they learn that if you don't teach them to work with what they already appear to like for some reason instead of just ditching it?
I will disagree with your statement that long hair (for men) is more versatile than short.
The model on the episode, Eric, admitted that he kept his hair long because "it was easy". I think that many, but certainly not all long haired men, would have the same response.
Long hair on men usually only allows for it to hang free, or be pulled back in a ponytail....maybe for spice, it can be braided or twisted. But that is about it for most men unless they want to push the envelope of gender.
Long hair does take thought and care, but it is not versatile for men and it is not flattering for everyone. There are countless variation of length and texture that land above the shoulder for short haired men. Products give even more options to hair that is not long and heavy.
Most of the world looks at hair like a chalk board. It can be erases and re-created at will. The change can be fun and enjoyable.
Long hair can also be a challenge and can be fun and rewarding.
I look at long hair on men as survival of the fittest. If a man can surpass all the hurdles of having long hair, he can wear it. I am glad that long hair is not mainstream, because it makes it special. Being special is worth the harrassment.
What you explained here is versatile. You can have the appearance of short-hair with a pony style look or let hang down for a long-hair look. For me, I could also straighten my hair wgich gives it another look instread of wavy and curly. You can comb your hair in many different styles as well. There is the dread-locks look, hell, you can go on and on here.
Let's see how versatile short hair is, since I wore every short-hair style in 34 years...You can move your part around on your head...whoopi-do. Once your hair is cut for a particular short-hair style, there is not much else you can do to it. You really need to define short-hair and what the boundaries are before being considered a long-hair here before commenting any further. I saw Eric's hair and there are not many choices for his style at that length to be considered versatile. He is stuck with the way it was cut and how it was layered and textured as you spoke about.
Change is good and lots of fun. I have never worn my hair at the same length and style for more than 3 months.
Agreed.
I don't care if long-hair is mainstream or not and nor do I care what other people do to their hair. Eric's new hair style will be a challenge for him and the reasons are:
1) With long-hair, it appears he just tied it back in a pony-tail most of the time. He kept it simple. Of course we won't know how accurate this staement is, so I am guessing with what he said, "It is easy".
2) Now he will need to style it every day at that length. If he doesn't, well, then that means the hair-cut was simply a waste of time.
the irony is very thick with this one, for those who have not seen the show before the male host from the previous season had very long hair that was far less nice then the guys hair that was just chopped off. just thought i'd throw that in.
he looks so good that he looks good with both short AND long hair.
If you suffer so much from a man's hair cut you maybe will understand how it hurts some men when a woman's long hair is cut.
Hair is such a beautiful attribut that could bring the two gender together, why must it always be destroyed in this society, and mostly from people who have no interest in hair.
wolfgang
I do understand it, but I feel as a point of principle that I ought to be supportive if a woman wants short hair, even though I prefer long hair on both sexes. OTOH, I hope my wife never cuts hers short, though!
I just watched Queer Eye, Straight Guy. I usually don't take much notice on what they do on these shows, since it's basically just entertainment, and not always what is "right".
However this time it really bugged me. Some muscular guy, with long, blonde hair, very tanny (Aired in Sweden, so probably a year old or so in the US). The show began with them complaining about the hair, how it looked like he tried to be someone else, and did not fit him etc.
That's just stupid, not to mention that he looked rediculous after the cut...
