Hi!
Back on this old chestnut of whether your hair gets longer quicker (notice I don't say 'grows quicker')if you trim split ends off. My partner says it does.
Yes! I know that hair grows from the roots, and that hair is essentially dead. But she says splits travel up hairs as the ends break off. If your hair grows for a year before it gets split ends, then it's probably grown about 6 inches. If you then trim off an inch to get nice new, un-split ends, those might go for, say, a year before splitting again. So it's a question of 6 steps (or inches) forward, one back, six forward etc. Five inches a year instead of six.
cheers, Barry
Hi Barry,
I would agree with ur partner, split ends are best trimmed. They do split down the shaft of the hair so the sonner you trim them the less damage is done.
Not only that, it helps prevent tangles and breakage. So you win by having neat long hair rather than a straggly mess.

I'm not sure split ends are quite the problem their are banged around to be, a lot of people have commented that they've never know a split travel up the hair... but then again, they do look better trimed.
re: my original post. A hairdresser told me the same about the splits travelling up the hairs. I would get my slit ends trimmed off, only my hair would then hang just above my shoulders instead of resting on them, so I think I'll give it a few more months before getting that first (very minor) maintenance trim.
Hi
My hair looks very healthy and long (I'm just completing a hair loss treatment) but yesterday I tested it again to see the difference at bulb level and I saw that even it the hair looks very healthy along its length, it very often breaks right around the root.
I think I eat well and take care of my hair properly, so what could the reason for this be?
Thanks
Maf
ive recentely had my hair cut short, how can i make it grow faster?
You won't be able to make it grow "faster" as much, but there are certain things that can be done to help it along the way.
1: Eat properly.
2: Get enough fresh hair, I mean air.
3: don't mess about with it. Scratching etc.
5: Wash it carefully. Preferably with some sort of conditioner.
5: Dry it carefully.
I use a soft towel with gradual, gentle strokes.
4: Comb it carefully. Preferably with a long hair comb or brush.
I part straight down the middle after drying, then leave it for
at least 3 hours.
5: Have regular maintenance trims.
I get 1cm cut off the length every 3 months, but this may change
soon to something slightly different.
I had to learn the hard way, so I hope this helps.
