This was me in july of 97. It was the most recent picture I could find, I'll try to post a more recent picture soon.

I'm having a hard time seeing the shadows in your photo, Bo. It seems
like you have a great, thick, single braid approximately 18 inches long. How close am I?
If so, that's magnificent. Keep growin' it to maximum length.
OM
My eyes must be fucked. Where the hell do you see a braid, never mind ANY hint of extravegant length, in that photo?
Hey Matt I guess you and I have the same eye problem!
I wish, this was me in june or july of 1997 w/ about 4 inches of hair. I'll post a more recent picture if I can find one, kind of hard to believe that I went over a year without crossing paths w/ a camera.

So Matthew, exactly what were hoping to accomplish by using that kind of language with your response? Come on man, come up with a more intelligent way to express yourself.
I was hoping to invoke a sense of sincerity, marked sarcasm and humor. My apologies if the attempt failed, but I still don't see that 18"-long braid what-his-name saw in that photo.
Gladly, but I gotta let lose sometimes. ;)
Well, at least you're honest. I too never saw the braid. However, I felt no reason to get quite so wound up about it. Language like that generally only serves to lessen someone's character. Thanks for the apology too!

I tore a few strips off another chap about two weeks ago for
insulting language as above, only *I* wasn't his target, and it
was on another board. We come to this board to engage in *friendly* conversation, and we *ARE NOT* to be insulted, even if you think it is justified. I thought I saw a long braid in the photo's shadows. I indicated with decency, that I might be wrong. That you saw something different is acceptable. That you expressed it in a way clearly intended to disdain another person is wrongful, notwithstanding any possible claim to "free speech".

Ya know, Ottowa Male, there are many brands of decaf that are just as tasty as the real thing.
Funny, I thought it was a rather clever response, in an artistic sort of way, wrought forth with attitude that I felt proportionate to the level of confusion I experienced at the time I read your post. I merely chose to transcribe, word-for-word, my instant, precise mental reaction.
As for free speech, I find it disheartening that you would put the very phrase in quotes, which generally implies disagreement/disbelief in whatever's being quoted. Aside from that, freedom of speech isn't even an issue here. Whether or not there's an extremely thick 18" braid in the photo isn't a matter of opinion. It's either there, or it's not. And given that the subject of the photo himself has noted that the picture is of him with short hair, there seems to be little room for disagreement. At any rate, I'm sorry if you felt insulted by my comments, as I certainly didn't intend to make you feel that way. I was simply a bit confused as to how someone could see a braid in that picture, and was expressing my surprise.
C'mon guys, lighten up! As longhairs, we have a laid-back stereotype to live up to!
Bo, by posting an old picture showing short hair and not including enough text to tell whether he was growing it out or a pining wannabe, ran headlong into this. From his post, he could be taken as either of the above. OM took the positive approach toward him and even imputed a braid to the photo, while MH reacted negatively. In light of our experiences with the two types of shorthaired people, both reactions were logical and expected. I very well understand what was going on in both those dudes' heads.
I perceived MH's frustrations were directed at Bo as an envisioned wannabe, not at OM, but they were vented on OM's words, so OM took it personally. With what is said above, guys can you understand where each of you were coming from and make peace? And as for Bo, the hair in that old photo was not exactly a buzz cut - it was long enough to get him harassed at work in some places. He could have a great head of hair by now. So why don't all three of you hug and make up, and if you get tangled in the process, I'm sure someone here will volunteer to separate your strands. :-)
Actually, I had no feelings, one way or the other, about the picture Bo posted. I was just confused as all get-out (There, see? no curse words. I can be creative) as to where the 18" braid was coming from. I wasn't venting displaced frustration on OM. I was just trying to figure out what he was seeing, and where, since, when I looked at the picture, it seemed patently obvious to me that there was no freakin' (is this acceptable?) braid.
I'm not mad at anybody, and, if I offended anyone, like I said that wasn't my intent. I was just being my normal, poor, misguided self.
Really, Bill, I'm not all that complicated. Ask my wife. She psycho-analyzes me all the time. :)
I can see where the shadows could give an illusion of a braid although I don't know how many inches it is. By the way, is that wrench in your hand or are you just happy to see me?
