Hi there,
I've done a search and I see the 'long hair compatible job' thing has suffered repeated voicings. BUT I'm gonna bring it up again, just cause I'm a trouble maker lol Just wondering if there are any long-haired health care professional's lurking around. In January I'm taking a health care aide course. Shootin' for psychiatric aide, and ultimately becoming a psych nurse. Anywho, do you think that kind of job is long hair friendly? From everything I've read it appears to be so, but I can't help but worry. I'm really really looking forward to having long hair again, so naturally I worry about what could take that away from me. Anyways, I'm rambling, so I'll leave it at that. Look forward to hearing your comments.
(Amateur psychiatrist hat goes on). Rather a lot of worrying going on here ! All the psychiatrists I've ever seen have all seemed to be a couple of pasties short of a picnic themselves so I wouldn't worry at all !
Good luck with your hair and your career.
Laurence
Coyote,
My partner, who is also a longhair, is a nurse practioner (that is a higher level than an RN or an LPN). He gets no flack about his shoulderblade-length hair, but has had to cut back his fu moustache. It seems that management of healthcare facilities are more interested in being able to see your mouth, than they are interested in seeing the back of your neck.

Ahhh... so its people like you that tie me to the stretcher... I got you licked now.... ;-)
Don't worry, just do it... follow the advice of a szitzophrenic... listen to the little voice in your head that tells you what to do and do it. Consequences Smonsequences...
What they gonna do anyway, shave your head, sack you? Na... too much of an opportunity for a lawsuit... hold back advancement opportunites? Just mention the word "hassasment" sends most managers packing...
No Seriously, I talk tongue in cheek, but you have nothing to worry about, set your mind firm and do you job well. Treat everyone with respect and show them a confident and hardworking individual and you'll go far. Hair is only dead cells afterall...
A few weeks ago I was visiting my mother in law in the
hospital, one of the nurses was male and had hair long enough
to put in a pony tail.
So it would appear that it is up to the individual hospital....
