Hi,
Do you guys headbang? I mean not necessarily to music, I mean just like that.
Does it make our hair dry faster?
Does it actually make hair fall easier?
And can it damage hair?
Apart from that I think headbanging is a great neck exercise.
lol, probably worse for the head than the hair.
There has been numerous times when I've "headbanged" when in hurry, to speed up drying time. Well not really headbanging, since that would just cause a lot of tangles. But simply flip the head up and down a number of times in slower motions. This does seem to dry the hair faster. I don't think it makes much difference to completely wet hair, which I also assume would damage the hair more. But when it's 90-95% dry, it does seem to speed up the finishing drying time noticeable.
It probably "damages" the hair a little less than a dryer would, I'd guess.
Headbanging when dry, besides from possibility of getting a headache ;) I would guess it damages the hair to the extent the wind would. Not counting that it might cause quite a few tangles, which in turn might break or cause strands to loose when combing out.
As for falling easier, not as I can remember. Might have caused the cuticles to not be as smooth, and more air around each strand. Which causes more volume though.
I've actually heard of a guy breaking his neck and died when headbanging on a concert once. Of course he did it in extreme... And I am not 100% sure it is not a urban legend. But I doubt it is good neck excersise ;)
I am sure it is not "healthy" to "headbang". But I doubt you have to worry about a stroke. I am sure it is a possibility, but so is getting cancer from eating barbecued meat.
I also think the speed etc has importance. "Banging" your head in a slower, more "normal" motion, would be about the same speed as jumping or perhaps even dancing? And that would basically mean that anything that causes the head to move up and down more than your usual day-to-day routines, could as easilly cause a stroke.
But then rapidly "headbanging", sure can't be beneficial... If you can break your neck doing it, I am sure you can get other serious problems as well ;)
Aside from being really fun... I must say that I know two other longhairs at my school. Two of us (myself and Michael) headbang alot to metal music. The other guy doesn't. Michael and I have a lot of frizz and fly-aways, and the other guy doesn't. I would go with the first guy's hypothesis.
I don't really think a stroke is in the bag if you headbang.
If headbanging caused a loss of hair, I, along with other musicians (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, oh and Zack Wylde [sp?]from Ozzy, etc), would have been bald long ago! I'd say there's no worries there!
...one of the best headbanging music videos I've seen was "Peace Sells, But Who's Buying?" by Megadeth. When I first grew my hair out, I used to headbang all the time to that song, just so I could look like Dave Mustain did in that video! :)
Headbanging undercuts are the most amazing things to watch! The contrast, man...
But yeah, I headbang. I was at it earlier tonight anyhow...It tends to make my hair look bigger, but then I suppose all the air gets caught in my curls. I'm not arsed anyway, as it makes my hair look longer!
Yes, in moderation, like a couple of flips.
I suppose if you got enough centifical force, it would.
For my very straight hair it at least gets all the hair pointed
in the right direction.
I got mine caught in one of the shower curtain holder thingies
once. Oops.
