Hello chaps!
I'm after a little advice here. Had shoulder length hair back in 94 through 96. Got it all cut off when I got a little more responsible at 19/20 years old. For the past 5 years I've now regretted cutting it off! I've tried growing it but I've lost the patience when it gets to the orkward stage when its in your eyes and curling round your forhead.
I haven't had it cut since the start of sept, I'm only on 2" fringe and about the same on top.
Does anyone have any advice on how to tolerate the orkward stage?
Be a man! Tough it out!
;)
PROZAC... just kidding!
er wear a hat, use hair gel, grin and bear it!
I just measured my hair and it is 4.33 inches so I am still in the same stage as yourself... This is the furthest I have managed to grow my hair before giving up and when I have a bad hair day, i just remind myself of this fact, it makes me want to press on and keep growing!
Stick with it and try to remember the hair you regret cutting... take your vitamin pills, get plenty of sleep and wear a bowler hat if the worst comes to it.
Best of luck matey!
...a hard one! I can't stress the words "patience" and "persistence" enough. I've been in the awkward stage now for a little over a year. Luckily, I'm in school and allowed to wear hats, which I wear on a DAILY basis...even at home! When I worked last summer for my summer break, I gelled the hell out of it. Annoying, but it works. But, in order to be able to wear a hat every day, or gel, takes much patience. I know that once I can get my hair into a full tail it will be fairly easy from there, so I also keep trying to focus on that. I also try to focus on all hte positive things about having long hair, and that helps as well.
Think positive, and have the expectation that it will take a while and you'll do fine.
Three things will help you. First, stay busy enough that you just don't have time to look in a mirror that often nor think about the way it looks at that moment. Second, keep in touch on this hyperboard since some of these guys are so-right about every stage all of us go through. And third, measure your heir today then, with pen and paper, write down the next 6 to 9 months by name and beside each month add today's length plus 1/2 growth per month so you can see, on paper, how long it will be and when. All of these things have helped me to hang in there. I'm somewhere close to five inches now, not having but one trim since I went from a buzz in March to this. Speaking of trims, I'm glad I got it evened out a couple months ago. Sure, I lost a little length but being able to take care of it was worth it. That's helping me through every awkward stage and I can see that about January or February I'll go in for another slight trim. I never hesitate to let the sylist know I'm growing my hair out and she's been able to tell me, and sort of show me, how to brush it, care for it as it grows. Awkward stages? Yup, of course. But with her help I can tolerate it for sure. Good luck buddy and keep the Hyperboard posted of your progress. Josh
Hi Chris
Awkward stage is a pain, a maintenance trim every 3-4 months is a good idea, you loose a litle length but gain a lot of confidence. Like Josh says never be shy to tell your stylist what you are trying to acheive.
Also the suggestion about measuring and recording your progress is good. Especially with pictures helps you see how your doing. It also give you a short-term target to reach which keeps you going through a bad spell.
I started with milestones like:
> My Hair is in my eyes - (I can see it without a mirror).
> Reaches the base of my nose.
> Reaches my mouth.
OK - so now I need a new milestone... Maybe now I'll move on to been able to keep it back behind my ears, or hell I'm only 4 months from chin length! Thats the trick, never look more than a couple of months ahead, be patient and you'll get there.
