hey
At the moment my hair is a fairly shaggy mop that has been grown out from a standard short back and sides. The fringe is starting to creep over my eyebrows and the back is over my ears and neck. I want to grow it longish - so it falls at about shoulder length. The look Im going for is something like Jonny Depp/Tom Cruise recent long hair, that looks smart. I don't want it to be tied back.
Any thoughts on how best to achieve this? I have VERY dry hair so any thoughts on what would be good products to use after washing?
Alex
Hey Alex,
I use Matrix products (Sleek Look is the name) which handles the moisture problem. I live in Denver where it's really dry. I'd suggest you do what I did when I started growing my hair out (nearly 5" all around now): I visited a good salon and just had them look at my dry hair, told them my plans, and used the products they recommended. There are a lot of good moisturizing shampoos and conditioners out there. But for me, the key has been to work woth the salon pros. I used to think all the hair products in grocery stores were the same, but far from it. Many can damage the hair. Good luck man and keep that hair growing. Josh
For dry hair you can try cutting back on how often you wash. On days you don't wash you can either rinse with water or condition only. This helps *a lot* with dryness. You can also put some oil in your hair before bed. I use Jojoba oil. I put a few drops on my palms and run my hands through my hair, concentrating on the ends. (If you use too much your hair will look greasy - just cut back next time).
As for looking like Tom Cruise or Johnny Depp... you're on your own!

Yeah - Simple Answer keep growing! I really advocate regular tidy-up trims and you get to the Tom Cruise MI:2 look pretty quickly, infact your only a couple of inches away. From there just keep growing, get a trim every 3-4 months and avoid having anything taken off the top. Depending on how fast your hair grows you could be at your goal by the Summer.
