Hi there,
Just wanted to say I like the site here, I just stumbled on to it recently. SO before I get to my question, I'll briefly tell you about me I'm male,23 university student with green eyes and at the moment blue hair which is slightly down past my shoulders. I've had it down by (lady) friends into a french braid, done in the salon into a tight double braid(one on each side of my head, starting from my forhead). PLease forgive my ignorance of hairstyle names I am still learning =) And at the moment it is usually in a ponytail or worn out.
But my question is this, I've been wearing those little hair ties but they seem to pull out my hair sometimes(and I need all the hair I can get since I do have naturally thin hair). SO I am just curious if you all think that a guy can get away with wearing a scrunchie(a small one at that), and still appear manly? (I will be going for the androgynous goth look eventually but not at the moment. And I've actually considered getting my hair cut into a slanted bob with my hair longer in the front...
Does anyone have opinions?
Jeff
I use the ties that look like terry cloth rings most of the time. Sometimes I use small scrunchies. Never a negative comment. Also, there is a newer product that looks like small black rubber bands. They are advertised on the package as being free of pulling and hair breaking. I haven't tried them because with my thinning hair, the finished diameter of my ponytail, at the band, would be like a pencil.
I prefer a bulkier hair tie,I think it looks better on me.

If you've worn a french braid and two braids, you'll have no problems with a scrunchie. Also, I've found with few exceptions, that having a feminine looking hair style, in and of itself, does not cause a man to appear unmanly. I'd even go so far as to say that it's entirely possible to have a very pretty hairstyle and still appear manly overall.
Good day
When you talk about hair tyes, i know what you mean. But ive found the cure, Clips!! Not feminin frilly things although the concept is the same, but with a little searching, it is posible to find some that look more masculine.(or androgynous) I got mine through a store that imports from the pacific islands. The one i wear most is made of thick brown leather sith a decorative braid, and i've never heard anyone comment negitivly on it. If you have difficulty finding one that appeals to you they are easy to make and cheap as dirt. A good clip is easier on the hair than a tight elastic, causing less stress and hair loss, plus it is one more way to stand apart from the crowd.
One added benifit - Girls LOVE them.
