For a while I had been wondering "Why's my hair so slow in the growing?". I would look at guys like nWo Slapnut and Redleader and notice that (in Redleader's case) he only had a few months on me, yet he seemed to have a lot more growth. I mean, I know that with the curly hair, growth seems to be slower, but even with my hair straightened, it all still seemed to hang around my head like some freakish cotton ball.
Well, I noticed something a little while back (when my hair was straightened for a theatre production). I was attempting to make a "poetic" looking photo (whatever that means), and to get the right angle, I kind of bent over and scrunched up my shoulders and my hair looked like it never had before(at least to me). . .it looked LONG.
That's when it hit me "Dude! Kevin, come on man! You're 6'4", and you've got a neck to shame Geoffrey the Giraffe, so duh it's going to take one helluva long time for your hair to drop the whole cotton ball routine in favor of the longhair look!"
Just found this a bit enlightening and somewhat inspirational.
Now walking around like Quasimodo,
That "Ball" Guy
P.S. About how tall are you guys? (mainly guys with curly hair)
Not to mention that I cut nearly 4 inches off the back a few months ago to keep from getting the mullet look.
newguy here, this is my first post.
let me tell you I did the same thing, I used to cut it in the back to let the bangs catch up. big mistake! IMO your hair "naturally" grows with it being a bit longer in the back and it looks better that way. they say the mullet has a "10/90" ratio front to back, I think "33/66" is more what nature intended.
I'm 6'5" with straight(ish) hair. You're right - anatomical references like 'mid-back' and 'waist length' give no true indication of how long the hair actually is. It WILL look short on very tall people. If I was 5'2" my hair would already be almost waist length - but it's not !
I know you were only kidding about the Quasimodo thing (I think) but being this tall tends to make you stand with a bit of a stoop anyway. I realised that this is because when you're standing talking with groups of people you have to bend down a bit to be involved in the conversation or engage face-to-face. On the very odd occasions that I've been with people the same height or taller than me I've found that I stand straighter naturally. I've been training myself over the last year or so to stand and walk tall and it looks and feels so much better than being round-shouldered.
PS 6'5" is still very tall in the UK - I believe that's nothing out of the ordinary in the US. I take 36" leg jeans and usually have to buy them from America. I live in a large town and not one shop sells trousers/jeans that long.
Yeah, I'm 6'4" as well and it's annoying if you want long hair! I also have a massive skeletal fram so my skull's annoyingly big too, meaning that tying is difficult. I actually end up looking like Gene Simmons around the house, putting my bangs in a pom-pom to keep them out of my eyes...
Great looking straight hair.
...about 6' 1". I feel like my hair's not growing either. Although my hair is not curly per se, it's wavy. I feel like my hair is not growing at all anymore, but that's when I just keep telling myself, "patience, patience, patience."
I'm 6'1. But my hair is not Curly... (maybe a little wavy...) but I still know what you mean... I look around at others approaching a year and I feel amazingly jealous... that said inspite of 4 trims (mostly back and sides) I've still grown 5.5 inches in 11 months which is on track...
Without trims I may have managed an extra inch.. but my hair would suck... Anyway I have a long face... (Or so I'm told) so I guess I'm gonna have to wait longer for my hair to appear long too!
-Sorted-
To begin, I am only 5'6 with a smaller head. Naturally, my hair is going to become longer in proportion to my head/body faster than you, or any guy or your size.
I've been growing since late June, 2002 from about two inches on top and buzzed around the sides. Right now, I am two weeks shy of the 1.5 year mark. I have not had any trims. My shortest hairs (which started buzzed) are about 9.5 in. right now. Do the math and my growth rate is just slightly faster than average.
Trust me, while my hair may appear to grow faster to you, it seems to take forever the way I see it. I'm reaching the point where month by month growth is not visible. The only way I know that my hair is still growing is by measuring it.
Just be patient and don't get any more trims. By summertime, your hair should be long enough to tie back. If it helps, measure your hair on the first of every month and that day only. It will reassure you that you are getting those half inches.
I think it looks fine. Thats the look I'm shooting for right now but it just looks like the hair on a centauri from babylon 5. :)
i dont even notice my hair growing
mainly its because im not concerned about the length, just concerned that i dont like getting haircuts(which is why i started growing it)
but sure enough, i look back on photos taken a few months ago(not OF my hair specifically, but just pictures with friends) and its longer
