Ok, Ive been growing my hair out since summer 2002 and I guess it mustve been cut last in late July or early August of that year. It was really short at the time, about a centimetre in length, which is what I always had. So since then Ive not had it cut and its now December 2003. The bangs are almost at the bottom of my chin when I hold them there but they bounce up if I let go, and the back is down to the bottom my neck. Anyway, my hair has quite literally been growing out. Every time I shower I get hair coming out, not big handfuls or anything but when I shower everyday it all adds up. My hair has become quite thin compared to what it used to be, and the most worrying thing is that Im only 17! I kind of like the way it looks at the moment but I know that its going to start looking terrible if I leave it the way I am doing for much longer. My Dad is bald, but he is 51 I dont want to be in the same situation when Im 19! I have a warm shower every day, and once every two days I wash it with 2 in 1 shampoo, and the other days I rinse it with water. I blow dry my hair with both warm and cold air (because the dryer has two modes) and I also comb it, but not hard. Ive heard blow drying can damage hair but theres no other way of drying it before I have to leave for school. Im pretty worried about it but dont know what to do, and Im also quite self conscious. If anyone can help me out with some good advice Id really appreciate it. Thanks.
You have to look at your mothers side of the family for your hair possibilties. You can start with Rogain or propeca, that may slow down the loss. A good diet can help, but its realy in your genes not much that you can do to stop it. Blow drying may dry the hair more but once the hair leaves your head its dead, so all you might do to it by drying it it just that, drying it out a bit more. Hnad fulls of hair is not normal, a 100 or so is, if there are handfulls it could be worth seeing a doctor.
Have fun with your hair

So its normal to be losing about 100 hairs a day or so??!! If so, then when will it stop, because surely they will just run out eventually???
The average human head has between 150-200 thousand hairs. Most of your hairs will have similar lifespans, and as a whole will grow for about 3-6 years, with some exceptions. Each strand of hair lives its life cycle seperate from its neighbor, so that you never "molt". You've always been losing this many hairs, its just that you never could notice it before.
Also, if you have wavy/curly hair, your hair will appear to thin once it gets longer, because it sections itself off into locks, leaving a "part" all around the lock. this is just an illusion.
Good luck!

What he said!
You lose 100-150 hairs a day. You also have 100-150 new hairs growing a day.
As your hair grows longer, the weight pulls on the curls, and hair. It will appear thinner.
Cool!! Thanks very much guys. Now I can stop worrying so much about it, youve been really helpful. :)
