I've been growing my hair for about 16 months and i must say say that i'm pleased with my progress but there is one thing that's bugging me and that is that the ends of my hair are curly, which i don't really like, i'm constantly untangling them, should i get a trim and how much should i get taken off, please note that i've never had a trim before
Trimming because of curling at the ends will be of no use at all because the hair will only grow back out and curl at the ends again. A vicious cycle. The only real reason to trim is for getting rid of damaged ends so the hair can grow healthier and not break off as often. Your call, bro! Peace!
Don't get a trim - all thatwill happen is that you will have to go through the same problem later on. Awkward curling is solved by greater length, and the only thing that will give you that is not to trim and to be patient.
The curl at the end is caused by the lack of weight to pull the curl down. Cut off the curls and the ends will still curl.
Perhaps you could try a blow dryer on a warm/cool setting and a large round brush on the ends?
I have wavy hair that, left to air dry, forms small ringlets everywhere as if I've had a perm. If I use a blow dryer and large round brush, it looks thick and straight.
I was in the same position about 5 months ago, and went for the trim. Now my hair is back to the same length it was prior to trimming and curls a bit worse! Don't do it! If your anything like me you might feel a bit of a tit with the curls/flips/kicks (whatever), but you can be certain it's worse when you realize you could have had the extra growth. I know a guy with same problem, once his hair was past his sholder by like an inch or two it looked okay and the curls didn't show so badly. Anyway it's up to you, but my advise is a definate NO!
...my response here
I think curls at the ends look great! Let 'em curl.
As for tangling, you might want to keep your hair in a ponytail at least some of the time, and with multiple ties on the way down that suppress the curl.
Good luck, and let it grow.
