YES! My hair has crept into a length I can get to stay in a ponytail.
Of course it is a stubby little thing that looks kinda weird and
there are dangling pieces still but hey it is a ponytail...
Of course judging from my previous experiences, This is a harbinger
of the "Oh god, it's in my food again!" stage.
Oh well...
Though I don't like the idea of restrained hair, I know that it is a must in a lot of situations (i.e. soldering, working w/ power tools, eating, etc.) and presently my hair is not long enough in the front to tie back in a conventional "pony tail" but I can tie it back near the top of my head which looks really trange, is there any other way of keeping my hair out of my face( short of braids and clips)?
either use tons of gel or wear a hat or bandana

Don't give up. It does not necessarily look wierd to ohers, but it looks diferent to you. Do what you need to do to keep it off our face or flying in the wind unless that is your intention. I confirm others mention of Jells and Hats. I found getting my hair set on rollers at a local salon kept it under control while it was getting longer on the sides. I just said, I am growing my hair, and I want it neat but not feminine looking. [That is my taste.] Now it is long enought t tie into a pony tail, but now I form it in my left hand, twist it once and fold it up and put a honrrim plastic baret to hold it up and it falls into a soft big curl on the back of my head. Does not hang down and looks very neat. Fews men wear it this way, but I get a lot of positives. Now it is long enought to stay tied back and I don't have to get the set, but sometimes I do because it is relaxing and looks especially neat when I want to pull off the illusion that I have great hair and don't have to do anything to maintain it.

Same with me!
Maybe it's just my hair, but I use to roll up my hair in the back and put a clip on it. I did this for several months and now no matter how many times I comb my hair in the back to straighten it, it still curls up all nasty like, sort of like spider legs. It could just be my hair, but I blame it on wearing the clip and having my hair trained to be rolled up like that. So I'd be careful with wearing a clip to hold back your hair.
