As far as I understand it any natural curl in your hair comes
from the way it grows out of your hair folicle even if the curl
doesn't come until there is more length. maybe I'm not right
about this. I'm sure there are more knowledgeable people
on this board who can tell us.

Actually, I think, (and I'm not trying to be condescending or a know-it-all, just telling waht I have read) that the shape of the hair shaft is what determines curl. For example, straight hair has a round hair shaft, while curly hair has an elongated, oval-shaped hairshaft. Wavy hair would obviously fall somewhere in the middle. I have curly hair, and I've read a lot about it in my quest to make it naturally straight, and this is what I have found more often thatn not.

i think you are right... or at least that agrees with my understanding of what causes hair to be curly or wavy.
