After years of short haircuts, I decided to try a different cut. I always opted for a short style as I felt my employer expected this appearance. After much thought, I've let the back of my hair grow to its present length of about 5". I've kept the top and sides shorter as I feel the company I work for is fairly conservative. This length certainly doesn't compare to that of many of the posts I've read, but is quite a change for me being in my early forties. My wife doesn't mind the change. I really like the longer style and wish I had done it years ago.
Look! Up in the sky! It's a longhair! It's a shorthair!
No, it's MULLETMAN!!!!!!
Heh. Sorry, I just was channelling the spirit of the anti-Mullet
websites. I've seen this tyle work on occasion. Depends on hair
type, exactly what it long, what is short. Most don't work and
make the person look way to redneckish, or like a bad wannabe rock star. But all is relative.
I myself am staying within the line of "collar-length" by trimming
the back... one more trim and it'll finally be even except for the front.

Go for it, man. It's a good compromise. I think "mullets" look pretty cool if kept neat. Who cares if others don't like them. Growing your hair longer means thumbing your nose at what most people think anyway.
My main theory on why some "mullets" look okay and some don't
involves the transition zones between long and short hair. The
style should be carefully crafted by a good stylist to make it
look like one style, a true mullet to the soul, rather than just
"a short hair cut up front with the back just let grow." The bad
mullets to me look like they were done with a flowbee.(A Revolution
In Home Haircutting) I will say that the professor in one of my
classes has a very nice ponytail mullet thing going on.
Why do I have the feeling that this board is now on a mullet tangent?

Because its better than talking about transvestites?
Chaeya
ROFL!
Bill (who actually thinks mullets are cute critters)
Absolutely, and less likely to send us inot a broiling controversy.
What about Transvestite Mullets?
